It means set your PC to fixed IP of say 5.8.8.10, netmask 255.255.255.0, gateway 5.8.8.8 and then use the corrupted image mode.

Note when it complete the IP address will be changed back to more usual round here 192.168.1.1

It worked perfectly.
Great!!!
Thanks for the additional feedback, PJ36, I'm glad it's working OK for you now

The exchange info can be handy and I think it saves a bit of time over doing the calculations manually (when it works) . I expect there will always be a difference between the estimated and actual distances since the loss rate is only theoretical and there is always some source of interference/degradation between the exchange and the router.

I suspect the web gui was built around sharing only one external IP address, where you can't forward the same incoming port to multiple destinations. A work around is just to use non-standard ports on your machines.

If you have a block of IP addresses you can run the Router in no-NAT mode. There's a thread around discussing this:- basically you give the router one of the 6 usable external IP addresses and turn off NAT. You give a real external IP addresss to each of your machines and specify the router as their gateway. It does mean that each of your machines is exposed to the internet and needs its own effective firewall.

As an Example taken from the stats.txt file to be sure and clear...

01/07/2008 23:30	6827, 2, Up, 54

Reading form left to right I can say that the line are as followed:

Date and time, Sync down, SNR down db, UP? presumming router is up? and Ping time.

Yep, apart from the UP bit

Just to confirm, the format is:
Date and time, DS sync rate (kbit/s), DS SNR margin (dB), Ping status, Ping response time (ms)

So "UP" means the Internet connection appears to be UP, in the sense that the RSL can ping the address (specified under the settings tab).

PJ36 wrote:

Thanks for your patience in explaining this, PJ.

You're welcome

And the information that you have given is not detailed enough. What firmware image did you upgrade to? Single image or separate images? What were your mtd values before and after the upgrade? What exactly is the state of the router after upgrading?

It is worth noting that not all printers are compatible with these print servers and usually the manufacturer of your router/print server will publish a list of compatible printers. You would do well to see that yours is on this list before wasting too much time on getting it to work.

Usually you have to enable the print server in the router config screens and in some cases also follow some form of configuration for the printer its self in the same screens. You should have some form of test button in the admin pages of the router to send a test page to the printer and make sure everything is running.

Assuming all of that works you then need to connect to the server by specifying it in your operating system to be a remote printer residing at your routers IP address.

....and of course a serial console cable really helps to show what's going on and ensure you can get the connection timing correct for PCTOOL
