Bricked Dlink GLB-502t Router

Post by ajiteshm » Sat Sep 10, 2011 6:07 pm

I have a Dlink GLB - 502T router (purchased in india).
I tried to flash it with Australian firmware and thus it got bricked :(

I got to know that some DLink routers are compatible with routertech firmware and can be successfully unbricked.

Externally its similar to Dlink DSL 502t.It has Usb connection and Ethernet connection both.

Unable to connect to the web interface or through telnet usig 192.168.1.1 as gateway address.

My router details are (from router box):
GLB 502T - V2
H/w ver : v1r2
S/w ver 3.7.0D.1.A

Now when the router is powered up here is the light info :
Power : on
adsl : off (with phone connected)
ppoe : continuously blinking
lan : on(if lan cable connected)
Usb : continuously blinking (no usb connected)

heres the ipconfig info when router is connected via ethernet cable :

Please let me know :
1)if router is compatible with routertechs firmware?
2)If it is then please provide me a detailed recovery procedure..

Really want to make my router work again..thanks in advance

I was unable to use Router update check as pc is unable to connect through telnet
Also Pctool is unable to retrive ip address of the router.

I used "Router Repair tool".Is is able to connect to the router.
bootloader->backup infomation shows following :

Code: Select all

BUILD_OPS 0x301
bootloaderVersion 1.3.7.15
ProductID AR7RD

SerialNumber none
MAC_PORT 0
MEMSZ 0x00800000
FLASHSZ 0x00200000

MIPSFREQ 211968000
SYSFREQ 105984000
PROMPT (psbl)
IPA 192.168.1.1
mtd0 0x9009A000,0x90200000
mtd1 0x90020090,0x9009A000
mtd2 0x90000000,0x90010000
mtd3 0x90010000,0x90020000
mtd4 0x90020000,0x90200000
Get ROM size gives : 2MB
and get bootloader type gives : PSPboot

I tried to unbrick the router through wizard using RouterTech_3.6.0D_20110502_2.96_AR7RD-1Port_psbl_firmware.upgrade.img

the firmware got uploaded in router but the process got stuck at "Looking for router to reboot and settle".I waited for long and then aborted.

I tried ftp connection through cmd .it shows adam2.
I dont get it is it adam2 or pspboot???
Is it possible for me to repair the router through the bootloader????

It is pspboot - you can tell from the version No wtc - it is normal for the ftp prompt to be adam2 for backward compatability.

Clearly your environment got trashed at some point, the router won't boot because because there are important vars missing - such as BOOTCFG and the MAC addresses etc.

This can be fixed but first you need should try to find a set of appropriate vars for your router from a backup or another similar router.

Save this in a text file, and run it as a script with the PCTool
setenv mtd0 0x9009b000,0x90200000
setenv mtd1 0x90020090,0x9009b000
setenv BOOTCFG m:f:"mtd1"
setenv StaticBuffer 384
setenv modulation 0x1
Then upgrade to RouterTech 2.96 using the PCTool. Start with PCTool v2.3 or 2.4. If that doesn't work, try v2.1, and back and forth, until it works. Those old psp bootloaders (e.g., v1.3.7.15) may require several upgrade attempts with the PCTool before you succeed.

Ok its done.i was able to sucessfully flash the routertech firmware.Thank you very very much.

Heres how i did it :
I ran the following script you provided using pctool 2.4.
I tried uploading the firmware with pctool but process never got complete (may be because i am on windows 7 32bit)

So i uploaded the firmware with Router Repair tool and it completed successfully.I have followed all procedure in upgrade.html

Now following i have tried and is working fine : lights, dynamic ip,hardware reset button, pppoe connection, port forwarding.

I even set the DSL MAC address (fortunately it was on a bar coded sticker on back of my router ) through telnet using :
setenv HWA_0 00:17:XX:XX:XX:XX
setenv macc 00:17:XX:XX:XX:XX

As said by @mstombs important env vars are missing i then ran the following script found from FIRMWARE TOOLS 0.96 from 2MB PSPboot section and uploaded the firmware again:

Code: Select all

setenv FLASHSZ 0x00200000
setenv MEMSZ 0x00800000
setenv mtd0 0x9009b000,0x90200000
setenv mtd1 0x90020090,0x9009b000
setenv mtd2 0x90000000,0x90010000
setenv mtd3 0x90010000,0x90020000
setenv mtd4 0x90020000,0x90200000
setenv IPA 192.168.1.1
setenv MODETTY0 38400,n,8,1,hw
setenv MODETTY1 38400,n,8,1,hw
setenv StaticBuffer 384
setenv modulation 0x1
setenv BOOTCFG m:f:"mtd1"
setenv PROMPT psbl
setenv vcc_encaps0 0.0
setenv vcc_encaps1 0.0
setenv vcc_encaps2 0.0
setenv vcc_encaps3 0.0
setenv vcc_encaps4 0.0
setenv vcc_encaps5 0.0
But still i face this problem :
When i have used the internet for a particular amount of time i am unable to login into the web interface as well as through telnet ?
The internet is working very fine but have to restart the router to access the interface.

Please tell me if the following script i ran is correct for routertech or the previous one (2 posts above)??

You're probably running into low memory situations. See this: firmware-faq/#optimise

hi ..i am facing this issue with my router.
There is no ADSL light (DSL is not syncing) and the "modem modulation type" remains blank like this:
Image

I am unable to replicate this bug but it happens when i make any changes to the router settings and it does not happen everytime.
To correct it either i have to reset the router (from telnet) or install the firmware again.

Very strange - the ADSL ATM/DSP driver has failed to load or crashed, must suspect hardware issue - do you have another similar power supply you can try?

As mstombs said, this is all very strange. Possibly you have a faulty flash chip. However, I would first of all start with defragmenting the environment, which is very badly fragmented. It is possible that this will end up in the environment being trashed because it is already so badly fragmented. If the environment is trashed, then the router will be bricked. You will need to debrick it using the PCTool. So the first thing you need to do (before any attempt at defragmenting the environment) is to run the RUC, so that your environment can be fully backed up. This can be used to restore the environment if the environment ends up being trashed.

Now i have done "reset-config --defrag " and evrythng is working fine now.I would not meddle will the router settings for now and see if it happens to face the same problem.I would post the dump if ever this problem happens next time.

It all looks okay to me.

It makes a difference if you are debugging via a serial console cable (you will need to set the port speed on your terminal program to match).

I have flashed the 2.97 firmware and i am facing this issue : the modulation page is blank (Similar issue was faced by me in 2.96 sometimes but it used to get corrected after doing a hardware reset).
But in 2.97 i have tried both lite and normal firmwares, also resetting the router multiple times but the problem still remains.

Image

Currently i have flashed "Acorp 120i" firmware on my dlink glb 502t router and its working great...

Clearly your router chipset needs later drivers - does your version of RT2.7 support multiple ATM/DSP drivers - if so may be worth checking the latest atm/dsp75 is selected - if not you need code based on the Ti 3.7+ nsp which is currently only used for 1350 wireless, but I do know Asus LAN122 firmware also seemed to run on my Linksys ADSL2MUE.

No, i think my routertech firmware does not support selecting the dsp drivers.
1 port pspboot 2mb has 7.5 version of dsp while the lite one has 7 ver. i guess.
I have tried both the firmwares but the same problem exists.

Intrestingly Acorp 122i firmware which i have loaded has 7.03 version of dsp....i think the problem is with routertech firmware...
