FVS114 Odd item in routing table

Post by alasdairc » Wed Aug 27, 2014 10:39 pm

My Netgear FVS114 router is configured with ip 10.11.12.1, is a DHCP server for 10.11.12.100-200 and is connected to the internet via a WiMAX modem configured via PPTP over Ethernet credentials.

All the computers behind this router can access the web fine, however there is an issue with inbound connections to forwarded ports, as well as outbound connections to >1024 ports. It is as if there is a device between the router and the modem which is interfering with the port forwards.

I am also unable to access the router's administration page on <external ip>:8080 when previously I was able too.

Running traceroute internally I see that between the router IP and the internet there is a device/route which I do not recognize. Is this likely to be the modem?

Current routing table:

Code: Select all

Destination Mask Gateway Metric Active
---------------------------------------------------------
Default -- 80.80.176.48 -- Yes
10.11.12.0 255.255.255.0 10.11.12.1 1 Yes
10.11.12.1 255.255.255.255 10.11.12.1 1 Yes

172.16.254.0 255.255.255.0 10.11.12.250 2 Yes
Traceroute showing the 'rogue' device:

Code: Select all

C:\Users\Administrator>tracert gmail.com

Trace complete.
Is host 192.168.191.103 likely to be the modem? I can ping it from a local pc, but port scanning it times out.

Perhaps an obvious thing to suggest, but if you disconnect the modem, can you still ping that address?
