lost/forgotten network adaptor

Talk about anything you like here: as long as it's technical, doesn't fit into the other categories and is within the rules. Questions and discussions about operating systems, programming, websites, hosting, ADSL etc. are particularly welcome here.

lost/forgotten network adaptor

Post by studioeng » Sun Dec 27, 2009 10:59 pm

Hi guys,

I've recently had a major problem with one of my machines, it appears to of lost/forgotten its onboard network adaptor. All seems to be present and correct in the BIOS, but no PXE boot, nothing in Windows, nothing in Linux from a Live CD.

I've tried installing another network card into the machine, either wired or wireless and it will not boot, regardless of which port I slot it in.

I'm currently using an old USB1.0 ethernet adaptor (excruciatingly slow!). Has anyone ever seen or heard of this happening, or even if there is a cure? I've also tried re-updating the BIOS but doesn't help.

The motherboard is a Foxconn 946GZ7MA-8KRS2H Intel S775.
