Is there a way I could identify whence came the signal? Ask the neighbours? Yes but I live in London! (we sort of don't do neighbours, if I started knocking on doors asking "is your WiFi called ht457?, and if so do you mind awfully if I piggyback on it, don't worry about the key, I already have it....

Thank-you Chief, I know that is not "proper" to hijack my neighbour's connection in this way, when I say that I feel "very bad" about it it is not the legal aspect, rather the moral that bothers me........ but:.................. Is there a way I could identify whence came the signal? It would be so ...

Hi folks! I have not been here for a while, coz I don't think I have much to contribute, however what I DO know is that if I have A question about routers and networking &c, this is the place to come..... So: I have come to stay with my girlfriend, having given up my own flat. She has no landline, a...

Shall I call a priest........

Some of you will remember my eventually successful efforts to flash my router a while ago. After much conversing with BT, it seems that the problem was theirs all along, and that they have now "solved" it. However, my router is not now working. It is not "dead" I can "talk" to it etc, but it seems t...

Stats and speeds

Could one of you experts have a look at these figures for me please? It would seem that my router has died, it cannot "train" to a DSL signal, so I have gone back to my old BT voyager 105 Modem. Expecting an engineer's visit today after six weeks of problems I was astonished to find that a speed tes...

Figures, and what they mean.......

Just a quick question, could someone give me an idea of how to interpret figures from modems/routers? For instance attenuation, SNR and SNR margin, what should they be, what is acceptable, and what might be causing my download speed of 160 kps. I have Windows XP, Linux, and Windows PE, on two differ...

Off (Wireless)

I am using a 4 point router with wireless. I connect to it via ethernet cable, and have at present no need for wireless. There is no antenna attached to the router. How do I switch OFF the wireless?
(I have RT FW v2.3 on the router)

Yes, your analysis of the hex code is right. The PCTool version you want is this: http://mcmcc.bat.ru/dlinkt/acorp-russia/utils/PCApp-dist.zip Thanks Chief and Shokotan, and I am sorry if I am being boring/stupid, but when you say that my analysis (!) is correct, does this mean that there was a mis...

Your firmware is so old that it can't cope with a combined firmware image (e.g., you have no mtd4 partition). You might have to use the pctool to get the firmware onto the router. Trying to upgrade firmware that is so out of date is not for the faint-hearted. The risk of bricking the router is real...
