Re: DSL-2640T updated like a charm
Re: ADM6996 switch frying after a while. It turns out the problem is unrelated to what firmware or configuration are used, but rather a hardware problem: heat and cheap electrolytic caps. Known affected: D-Link AR7-based routers with ADM6996M or IP175A switches. Ex: DSL-5xxT, DSL-G624T, DSL-2640T, e...

Re: Router Upgrade Checker (Class II routers only)
PCTool 2.4 also runs with wine-1.4.1 Just need to install VC2008 (for MFC90.dll) before you can run it under wine: winetricks vcrun2008 Might also need VB6 runtime environment, which I had already needed to install, to be able to run "MTD Calculator" . Also worth noting, PCTool was helpful also in f...

RUC 1.4.1 tested working with wine-1.4.1 on LMDE (Debian Testing/Wheezy based).
Might need VB6 runtime environment, which I had already needed to install, to be able to run "MTD Calculator".

Re: [dev] Alternative webif. LuCI + uhttpd?
Trying to interface with it, when its interface is not documented, would be just as interesting. Just have a look at the spaghetti html and javascript code of the webif. Adding anything new to the webif can be an absolute nightmare. Darn.. Is it undocumented at all? Back when I used it, I remember ...

Re: [dev] Alternative webif. LuCI + uhttpd?
I was aware of /usr/bin/cm_* , as I used at least cm_cli before, and know that the webif interfaces with cm_logic. I wasn't actually implying replacing cm_logic, but now come to think of it, given its size of 1.2MB, it would be desirable. But yeah.. Reverse engineering that could take unplannedly lo...

[dev] Alternative webif. LuCI + uhttpd?
As I recall, the webif is largely closed source. From a quick look: /usr/www/cgi-bin/(webcm|firmwarecfg) Would there be interest in the development of an alternative webif, possibly based on LuCI + uhttpd (replacing mini_httpd)? And if so, is there a list, or separate download, for the other non-GPL...

Re: Comprehensive compatibility list for RouterTech firmware
Despite warning about "possible frying of switch" if using (H/W) QoS/PRIOWRR , been running RouterTech on the DSL-2640T since March 2010, and have updated firmware a few times since. # router-info --router="D-Link/DSL-2640T" Router=D-Link/DSL-2640T; Board=AR7WRD; Wireless=Yes; Firmware=RouterTech_3....

Re: OpenWRT AR7 platform
How do you find that out? I'd like to know how you tell which changesets affect which architecture? Just go to: https://dev.openwrt.org/browser/trunk/target/linux/ar7 Then click on the 'view changes' button at the bottom of the page, decrement/increment the from/to revision to widen/narrow your sea...

Re: dropbear bad password attempt for 'root' from <IP>
Nope. Unable to reproduce it after 3 attempts at doing "ppp_restore.sh" and after an attempt to reboot router, and also attempt to manually disconnect, wait a while, then connect. In all the attempts mentioned, ppp is connected right away, and the rule to drop ALL from anywhere on ppp0 is properly a...
