Re: RouterTech Firmware 2.95 Discussion

Sorry, it was too late yesterday. Must have downloaded the wrong firmware. Wireless works now...
An absolute beginners mistake...

Re: RouterTech Firmware 2.95 Discussion

Tried the new firmware and after a day trial and error I'll give up and go back to 2.94 tomorrow. After hours and several brick/debrick sessions I've nearly got everything up and running except wireless. In the 2.94 I was able to select WPA and there WPA2 and it worked fine with my notebook. Now wit...

Re: Windows network shares, not working!

That's a nice suggestion, but sadly I'm not aware of anything having been installed around the time it broke. It isn't my computer... but I did set it up for the user so that they don't have an admin account by default. Hopefully they couldn't have installed anything too dodgy but you never know. I...

Re: New Logo for RouterTech

For a newbie like me... I also am totally un-impressed with the logo. Sure a community like it deserves something better. I have no problems with the current logo. There are more important things to do. Why don't write a good help file instead of "starting a useless logo competition"? So what do yo...

Re: Windows network shares, not working!

To add insult to injury.... booting Ubuntu live onto the system allows it to connect to the share fine. So it's clearly a problem with Windows XP.... one with no obvious cause and no obvious solution. But I need to fix it. Had a similar problem years ago with XP. It was caused by an explorer extens...

Re: Update DDNS with RouterTech 2.94

Busybox gets too big (an extra 40kb). But when the standalone source is added to our "toolbox" binary, it only grows by about 512 bytes, so that will be the route. Isn't it possible to enable the nslookup command in busybox? This is a standard command and is in my opinion the best way to do this. O...

Re: Update DDNS with RouterTech 2.94

Its pretty 'expensive' to lookup a hostname using {ping, grep, sed, sed} but I've seen other similar functions using traceroute and awk. It is fast enough for the intended purpose. With no other tools available (nslookup or dig...) that was the simpliest solution for me. Because the w=$(WaitForSync...

Re: Update DDNS with RouterTech 2.94

But don't you think at least the function get_host_ip is usefull for other things and you should move it into rt_utils.sh? Yes, it should. I will move it there. There is just one little problem - in many cases, if the host is invalid, you will get a response containing the IP address of your DNS se...

Re: Update DDNS with RouterTech 2.94

If you don't object, then your script can be added to firmware v2.95, in this format (perhaps with a few tweaks for increased flexibility) That's the reason why i've posted it here. But don't you think at least the function get_host_ip is usefull for other things and you should move it into rt_util...

Re: Update DDNS with RouterTech 2.94

To whom it may concern: I wrote a script that is retrieves the ip address from a given hostname and compares it to the ip address of the router. If they doesn't match, it resets the connection (it kills pppd as suggested by thechief). The purpose is to keep the router's ip address in sync with a dn...

Re: Update DDNS with RouterTech 2.94

Create a cron job that runs "killall pppd" at the required times. Is there a way to detect when the router goes offline and online again?

Update DDNS with RouterTech 2.94

Sometimes for unknown reasons my router will disconnect and reconnect, receiving a new WAN IP address. This behavior is OK, but: In some cases it doesn't update the DDNS entry at dyndns. How can i initiate this by script. The idea is to put it into a cron job and fire it lets say every day. MfG Stef...

Re: Cannot add client LAN client with specific MAC address

The same issue came up here: https://www.routertech.org/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2874&p=39764 My answer is the same as what I said there. Which answer do you mean? Both the "For my part, I have never seen a MAC address that starts with a letter." and "All is well that ends well!" are not very helpful. R...
