Hmmm, there are some beta Speedtouch firmwares floating around that seem to fix the stability issues (on my 780WL it was V7.1 or 7.2 I think, they are NOT readily available on the Speedtouch site, you will have to check some forums) but the problem is I do not believe they support Annex M. Still, so...

I don't think restricting your options because someone MIGHT want to use a particular option that needs higher security, is a good compremise my any means.

Restrict the defaults yes, but allow "expert" users their tinkering abilities.

Typical BS. Instead of making people use a decent password, prevent people from being able to change/backup important settings. Makes perfect sense, if you are BT. I get the feeling they wouldn't be so happy if someone did that to them. DSLAMs that once you connect a customer you cannot disconnect t...

Very interesting indeed. Considering the poor security of many routers which leave WAN access wide open I am actually kinda surprised this didn't become a major issue a long long time ago. Personally, I DO use my 2Wire BT2700HGV for DNS resolution as I use it to DNS spoof sites on my LAN, such as wh...

Natural selection at its finest.

Anyone THAT stupid deserves to be electrocuted because they are a danger to us all and should certainly never breed.

Sadly, it seems to be those kinds of people who get away with doing deeply dangerous stupid things. Its usually an innocent bystander who gets hurt.

Have you read http://www.the-scream.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=22658 ? Everything you need to know should be covered there. Theres basically two methods: 1) flash the SBC American firmware 2) DNS spoof so that the router doesn't update itself with the BT settings Both those things can be done wit...

Temperature, crosstalk (this is a biggie as if more people are using their broadband at night then the more interference they cause with each other), street lighting (also likely a BIG cause), can all add to the problem. It might even be that the telephone line runs too close to the mains electricit...

No, the ROUTER is running Linux. You can use hyperterminal on Windows to telnet into your router to access ITS command prompt then follow the instructions as above.

Are BT required to replace old boxes with modern master sockets or do you have to pay for them to do that? My house had a junction box and then an old BT socket (the hardwired kind like extension ones) connected to that. Fortunately it was new enough to not cause any problems with my ADSL other than...

The test proves there should be an ADSL signal because the tone is sent BY the ADSL equipment, the same equipment that is sending the ADSL signal. That said, it only proves you ARE connected to that equipment. Its hardly conclusive proof that said equipment is working properly (other than it success...

I always heard spiders or more accurately their webs could conduct a current and cause shorts. However I have never heard first-hand experience of it before.

Perhaps the checklist for DSL problems should include "check your master socket for dead insects and spider webs". lol

For the record, I have always left my router on 24/7 but I HAVE also had a router fail due to power cycling it. My old DSL 504 died once when turning it off then back on, I had to do an emergency firmware recovery via USB as it had corrupted the FLASH. That said, I have a Linux box on the network wh...

I'm not familliar with the software but are you sure you cannot have multiple copies of the same IP each with a different domain? I know my 2-Wire router lets me do that as I use it to redirect some of the more annoying advert sites to my own server.

Yup, had known mine was Alcatel ever since I got a router that reported it. That was only because its kinda obvious, it couldn't really stand for anything else and I'm pretty sure its been said before BT favour Alcatel DSLAMs. I wish Be would sort themselves out, no new exchanges activated in over a...
