Recommendations for replacing router please

I'm in the UK and have been rocking RouterTech on Dlink DSL-g604t hardware for a number of years. The current device is in the final throws of capacitor death, so its probably time to replace it. (A spare is proving resistant to unbricking). Have the team and members any preference on hardware? I'm ...

Re: D-Link DSL-G624T LAN ports not working - seen similar

Seen a similar failure to this. I had a DSL-G604T that refused to connect on any ports at 100 base-t. All ports worked fine at 10 base-t. I was going to replace the capacitors as an experiment but didn't get around to it. Based on the information at the "badcaps" website and component specification...

Re: Router Stats Logger

Hi Neo. The ATUC Vendor code is dumped as (0x)50000000, which explains why the RSL displays "P". The other field dumped is "ATUC ghsVid: b5 00 50 00 00 00 00 00", so there is a valid country code but a dodgy vendor code. According to Xilo most of the C&W exchanges have a DSLAM with a "CTLM - Centill...

Re: Router Upgrade Checker (Class II routers only)

Hi adwil. This is a pretty classic glitch with the original firmware on the G604T. It replies with "ogin:" instead of "login:" under certain circumstances. Something in the system drops a character. You can see this happening at the end of the script/log that you posted. One of the last lines from t...

Re: DSL-g604t and ADSL2+ or LLU

With the "compatibility issues", it all depends. And you can always enable checksync. As for Broadcom, well, if it solves your problem, then go for it! That's the interesting thing. Without knowing the C&W DSLAM chipset its hard to predict, RSL says its "P" but manually poking about I see just NULs...

Re: DSL-g604t and ADSL2+ or LLU

Oh Chief that's so sad. That's almost offensive after all the work you've put into the firmware. To be honest there is a stability issue with my router at the end of the internal wiring. I knew it with ADSL1 (although it was much better without any ringwire links) but with ADSL2+ its back big...

Re: DSL-g604t and ADSL2+ or LLU

Left RSL running overnight. Line suffered badly in the small hours. Lots of DSM of 1,0,-2 ! Oddly it didn't call carrier down in the web system log until 07:30. This retrained BUT connectively seemed broken. A reboot cleaned it straight up. The thing is with BT profiles the poor overnight would have...

Re: DSL-g604t and ADSL2+ or LLU - edit x2

I'll reboot into windoze The generosity of some people :) Thanks for the help. I've attached the same three graphs you showed. I see what you mean, my bits-per-carrier graph only goes up to 1200 kHz. If this is true it might explain my missing Mbps. Are there any good commands to probe inside the r...

Re: DSL-g604t and ADSL2+ or LLU

@Neo Well I'm doing better than ADSL1. Indeed I'm pretty happy with the speed, its just curious that it's a lot lower than the theoretical speed for my Attenuation. There appear to be some brief noise spikes on top of a generally noisy background. And as I mentioned putting the large wireless-...

Re: 'Best' New Router for RouterTech FW

Your post and my new line encouraged me to look at several of the Asus modems. They are so high speced & pretty! Although some of the reviews point out some typically sad weaknesses; some hardware some software. Eg. http://www.digitaltrends.com/product-reviews/asus-rt-n16-review/ Asus seem to have h...

Re: DSL-g604t and ADSL2+ or LLU - edit x1

If I was getting "only" 11-12mbps, I would be over the moon - but that is not your question. Being that close to the exchange should enable you to connect at the higher end of whatever speed your ISP claims to be giving you (so if you're on a 16mbps connection, you should easily be able to get 14mb...

Tips when upgrading DSL-G604T to RouterTech (2.91.1)

Thought I'd post a few steps, wrinkles & solutions I noticed when I did this recently. Hope this helps anyone else. Initial Problem - Could not login to router Either the router arrived with a non-default password or I was confused and so I could not get easy access into it before the upgrade. It wa...

Re: DSL-g604t and ADSL2+ or LLU - edit x3

It is reasonable to suppose that the later drivers demand more from the hardware than the earlier (i.e., 4.x, 5.x, and 6.x drivers), and the extra demand might be the last straw for marginal hardware (one that was already on its last legs). But I haven't personally experienced any problems - and I ...

Re: Router Stats Logger - edit x1

Hi Neo. Just started running the RSL against a router running 2.91.1 instead of an old version. The RSL has been on my system used intermittently since you sent me the version with the "logfile name datestamp option" in September. What I had said ( edited to revise this): Anyway when I try and start...

Re: DSL-G604t versus NS68PV-GS motherboard 10base-T only

A good reason to turn your router off every night ... Clearly! Although one would assume they were built for continuous operation as they have no power switch and no-shutdown function. And even with one the powerbrick would still be energised (if not doing too much). Despite the power brick issue i...
