Hi, welcome.
If your router was supplied by Plusnet, then resetting it to factory settings should not stop you reconnecting to your ISP (Plusnet)
This will indeed put all the passwords back to the original which is on the back of your router.
Good luck

No, don’t buy a new router just yet.
If it has only happened once, it could just be a random event. See how it goes if it gets more frequent then look into things. EG resetting the router etc.

Have a look at Ubiquiti products, they do the equipment you are looking for.
www.broadbandbuyer.co.uk sell them, and they are very good at giving advice on which equipment will best suit your needs.

Possibly, but the metal box will still be shielding the signal.

Re: Wireless router kept in a metal rack.
Hi, yes your wireless signal will be degraded by the metal cabinet. Best option would be to take the router out. If that is not possible then look into aerials that could be mounted outside the cabinet. Or a wifi extender.

Re: Help me choose the best router
I can recommend ASUS routers. I've had one at home and work for a few years. Both are rock solid. Plus there is third party firmware available (RMerlin) to get that little bit more out of them.

If you have tried another router, and you still cannot connect to the internet , then the fault will either be with your line, internally or externally. Get your ISP to check out your line.

Re: Need help in connection troubleshooting
Hi, What make/type of router do you have?
If a factory reset doesn't work, then I think the router may have died. Are you sure it has reset to factory settings? Once you have reset it, you would have to put all your ISP details, Wi-Fi passwords in again.

Not an ideal way of doing it, You could put your server in the DMZ. That will prove the server can be seen on your network.

Hi, what firmware are you using? I have had the same problem with the latest merlin firmware. I have installed the latest official firmware from Asus and it cured the problem.

If your 'Kids' are up to cracking passwords, ringing your isp for logon details, figuring out how to take their device off static IP, then I don't think your going to be able to stop you kids undoing all your security!!

Re: Want a router that allows time limits
Yes, they could log into the router, I would have thought a very long and secure password should stop them though. The router can always be hard reset as well, but if that was done you would hope they couldn't carry on serving with default settings. Ie you could change your ip range to be different ...
