Re: setenv abuse ?

No, I don't write to mtd5, though it was a consideration at one time. Everything is now written to /var files or $ variables. plan A : record hourly stats in setenv variable. Too much defragmentation. plan B : record hourly stats in mtdx partition. Reduces flash memory life. ... plan Y : tftp minute...

Re: setenv abuse ?

I thought I would update my own thread in the unlikely event that anybody is interested. I have put a cron driven script into a permanent mtd5 partition. Every minute this appends a ifconfig ppp0 and cat ipaccount to a file. It then pings the PCs in my network, if it gets a response, it ftps the fil...

Re: PTI-8505G no longer a brick, but wireless don't work

Seen no_auto_vlynq in 2.93 changelog, thanks Chief, though it could be a while before I try it.

IPaccount upload discrepancy ?

On my PTI-8505G router with RT2.92, the IPaccount download totals agree with ifconfig ppp0 values. However, the IPaccount upload values are twice that of the ifconfig ppp0 values (and reported application values). To be honest, I have noticed this for quite a while, since I started with RT2.5, but h...

Re: PTI-8505G no longer a brick, but wireless don't work

Thanks Chief, I can see vlynq_polarity being set low in routertech_start_inits.sh. I don't remember seeing that in the release notes (only joking !). I know through looking the forum that most routers have vlynq_polarity (what is it by the way ?) set low, so I don't blame you for forcing it low. You...

Re: PTI-8505G no longer a brick, but wireless don't work

Took my PTI-8505G from to 2.9 to 2.92 and hit wireless problems. Log shows : ... cfgmgr(ap): Failed to get DIE ID from wlan driver. Cannot validate EEPROM Image ... cfgmgr(ap): Error: Failed to get a valid EEPROM Image. AP is DOWN ... cfgmgr(ap): NVS_TFTP_LOAD is enabled to download the correct EEPR...

Re: setenv abuse ?

Tried a minix partition on my new standby router. As expected, I lost the contents after I powered off/on, but I had to see for myself. So Chief, being the genius you are, is there anyway to create a permanent partition containing a flashworths (64K ?) of read/write memory that is not lost after a p...

Re: Router Upgrade Checker (Class II routers only)

Looks like the old router firmware fooled the RUC, but I do think that the RUC should assess all the information that is available (in this case in /proc/ticfg/env/) to decide whether it is pspboot or Adam2. If there is a conflict of information, the RUC should say so. Which bootloader to use is a f...

Re: Router Upgrade Checker (Class II routers only)

The log file is straight out of the tin. A later log file at RT2.92 correctly identifies Adam2.

Re: Router Upgrade Checker (Class II routers only)

Possible RUC problem Got a DLink G604T as a backup router. Tried to put on RT2.92, but had problems. Ran the RUC, this told me to use : Select an AR7WRD PSPBOOT 4 PORT firmware. Latest: routertech-ar7wrd-pspboot-firmware-20100105.zip Tried using this FW from the DLink menu, but didn't take. Realise...

Re: setenv abuse ?

Thanks for the comments on setenv. I am going to hold off any more work until I get 2.92 loaded so that I can see how fragmented (fragged ?) my env is. I won't load 2.92 until my backup router (ebay Dlink G604T) arrives and is up and running. Flashing firmware is too stressful without a backup ! I h...

Re: setenv abuse ?

Having scanned the forums I can see that the Chief is a big fan of minix file systems. However, after briefly scanning the makemtd.sh script, I don't really want to mess with my mtd partitions. Despite the risk messages, I am sure it is safe, but for what I am trying to achieve, I feel safer stickin...

Re: setenv abuse ?

Thanks Chief for your quick response. I like the idea of a minix partition, but according to the forums it should be unmounted before the router is powered down, unfortunately this wouldn't be practical in my household. I guess the CIFS mount point is for the likes of a NAS drive (which I don't have...

setenv abuse ?

Hi guys, Talk Talk are taking over my Tiscali account and are going to charge me more for less. My unlimited account will have a 40GB cap. Until I can find elsewhere, I will have to make do. It wouldn't be so bad if Talk Talk provided a usage meter, but I believe they don't. This brings me to my que...
