Probably post it in the software forum...but routers, general etc would be fine. It will be found and answered and anyone searching in future will find it.

Re: THOMPSON SPEEDTOUCH ST516 PASSWORD.

A quick search on google gives the default username as Administrator and password is left blank.

I believe the following are applicable to Sweden. Google will tell you more, or your VPI=8 VCI=35 also the connection mey well be PPPoE not PPPoA which I think is the default under the RT firmware. The rest of the set up is pretty straight forward under the Setup tab, quickstart connection. Always u...

Can't help you much myself, but might be useful if you can provide your test machines details - OS etc. Can you eliminate the PC as a cause of problem, since you seem to have tried various different routers. Might even be worth booting a live linux CD if you are on windows. Looks from the router con...

IPv6 would have been an issue when the Dell was taken downstairs and connected via cable...and worked. Must be something physical if it will work on one cable but not on the other. To eliminate setup issues connect the Dell upstairs and boot from a linux live CD. p.s. you might want to contin...

Is the cable in question a straight through or crossover cable? Might be that some NIC's can connect to the router using a crossover cable, where a straight through cable would normally be used, and some others will not. i.e the Vaio can, but the Dell not. A bit of a long shot, but other than than, ...

Remote shutdown windows pc from router.

Been looking into remotely shutting down a windows XP PC from a linux PC. I found THIS link which seems to have got me pretty much what I wanted - not got it working yet due to zone alarm on the windows PC blocking it - but it should work from what I can see. I am using Samba and the following :- "n...

Should be possible using an older PC as a cheap headless server running something light like xubuntu. A couple of cheap NICs,switch to connect multiple IP camera's, and a wireless card or access point maybe. This link seems to show something similar working. Sounds like a fun project :D I know it's ...

Not used that particular distro, but did briefly try it with Ubuntu. Not sure if it's still an option but it was possible using the liveCD to install and try Ubuntu from within windows. Can't say I actually used it much, only tried it on an older spec machine out of idle curiosity. It worked but was...

Man sitting in the bar in departures at a busy airport. A beautiful woman walks in and sits down at the table next to him. He concludes that because she's got a uniform on, she's probably an off-duty flight attendant. He decides to have a go at picking her up by identifying the airline she flies for...
