Well the way it goes here is every program is installed on each machine, not run from a share on the network. Is there a way to have a program installed on more than one machine, but checking that other copies of the software arent running at the same time on the network, so that the concurrent usage stays within the limits of how many licenses you have for that piece of software?

I don't know the answer there but there is a couple of tweaks for FF:- Here's something for broadband people that will really speed Firefox up: 1.Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. wouldn't it be easier to just have two machines attatched to the router and use one to check the on/offline-ness of the other? you could trawl ebay for an ancient machine if you don't already have one, if its only pretty much pinging your other machine then it's not going to need to be a beast

also im sure that the fact that my laptop only had 256mb of ram installed when i was dual booting fedora with xp probably played a part in the slow boot time :P
