Re: RT-N66U: Odd web-based only speed issues
If you are downloading P2P as fast as that the router will be busy with lots of connections, and the slower upload channel may be saturated - correctly configured QOS may help. Incorrectly configured QOS may be causing the issue. Are you sure how many clients are using the router when it is on? Are ...

Re: speed problem with new router, need assistance
What are your modem stats, connection speeds and noise margins? What ADSL connection mode, i.e. PPPoE/ PPPoA How is modem connected to router? If modem mode is PPPoE preferred mode is usually to put modem in bridge mode and enter ISP details in router. What setting does router have for MTU/MRU, Ethe...

Re: Huawei HG630b Filtering Rule Priority
LOL I think it is more basic than that - you could have one rule that allows access to a specific site, and another which blocks all internet access, presumably you would want the latter to have higher priority. But why bother, router based MAC or URL based rules will be easy for your smart kids to ...

Re: Huawei HG630b Filtering Rule Priority
If it is Linux iptables 'like', then the rules are processed in strict order of priority and the first to match wins, so you need to think about order. Don't know anything about that router or its firmware, so it is up to you to experiment!

But it is not unusual for manufacturers to keep the name and change the insides - which is where the ruc comes in to interrogate the current firmware.

Re: Port Forwarding Help
Ideally you put the modem into 'Bridge Mode' then let the dd-wrt router have the real Internet IP and configure port-forwarding in its GUI. You can only full-bridge pppoe, for other protocols the modem may some form of half-bridge, or failing that run with double nat _ dmz directed to your PC.

Re: How to fix a bad install of DD-WRT?
You might not have waited long enough, seems some new routers have slow flash/big firmwares that can take more than 10 minutes to flash. If flash not complete before a power cycle the router may refuse to load firmware and stick at a bootloader prompt - or it can get into a boot-loop where the fimwa...

Re: Installing extra applications
You haven't started with a good example, first start with a simple shell script, then a "hello world" type app to prove you have a cross-compiler working setup.
Changes to userspace iptables need an corresponding kernel netfilter modules, basically only possible with firmware recompilation.

legume described the early firmware version as "TI's priowrr qdisc", don't forget this is an old custom kernel with binary atm/dsp drivers.

Not sure what use such an iptables backup is, but you will also need the nat tables, I use
for a verbose listing using ip addresses
Code: Select all
iptables -nvL -t nat

Re: Router Recommendations
I happen to use a Linksys E3000 for wireless range extension, connected by wire back to main router - the E3000 has internal antennae and the 5GHz band limited coverage but fine for one room! Asus have been caught cheating in the US recently - using more power in products than allowed http://www.sma...

Re: Router Recommendations
I know some folk who get good use out of powerline, but do be aware of the marketting 'up to' specs, similar to wireless you'll be lucky to get half the advertised rate! If you can I recommend real cat5e cable, good for 2,000Mbps, you can get external grade to run wires outside if needed to put a ro...
