No wireless with routertech firmware on GWART

Post by samanddeb » Fri Sep 07, 2007 12:23 am

Hi, I have a safecom GWART2 54 125 and i tried to flash firmware using the latest version from safecom. This failed and left me with a brick.

Using advice from this forum i have now successfully used PCTool to flash the firmware with your config image RTech_AR7WRD_config.img and firmware RouterTech_3.6.0D_20070604_2.30_AR7WRD_psbl_firmware.upgrade.img

Now my router is up and running again - the LAN works fine, the ADSL works fine but there is no wireless!!!

The wireless LED remains unlit and none of my computers can detect the network. I have tried setting the defaults for W/L and and also changing the settings. Nothing makes any difference.

Help please!

Two questions:
1. How old is your router (i.e., when (and where) did you buy it)?
2. What is the output of this command (from a telnet or ssh prompt)

Code: Select all

cat /proc/ticfg/env

I have now got this working. Your question about the age of the router got me thinking and I found another thread where someone had a GWART2 54 125 with a different wireless chipset.

I have used the Acorp firmware and it now works fine.

I think its really bad that the manufacturers don't make it clear what their product is - and release different products with the same product code.

Good job you guys are here to help us all through.

Cheers :D

Cool :). You are right - the manufacturers should have distinguished the products clearly. Acorp did that, and Solwise did it half-way (by naming the newer models with the new chip the "R" series) - but some that will remain nameless did nothing at all.

Hi,

I have the same problem with this router.

I run the RUC tool before upgrading which didn't report any problems. It detected the wireless chip as a TNETW1130.
RUC recommended the routertech-ar7wrd-pspboot-firmware-4ports-20120130.zip and I installed the 4MB flash version.

The upgrade worked brilliantly with no problems other than the lack of wireless. (There's no WLAN light, no Wireless options in any of the RouterTech menus and if I access the wireless setup menus via the link in the docs, all the screens are blank.)

If I run the RUC tool now, it says "Wireless: No"

The router was purchased in April 2006 (from Ebuyer).

Output of cat /proc/ticfg/env:

Did you reset to defaults before and after upgrading?

Yes.

Confession. I did initially omit to reset to defaults *after* the upgrade, so when the wireless wasn't working I double checked the instructions, spotted my mistake and did the second reset to default then (and then re-reconfigured the various settings).

Then the wireless should work (assuming you have enabled it). If it doesn't work, then it is a hardware problem. You may wish to open up the box to check the the wireless card has not come loose (if it is a slot-in card rather than a chip).

OK, I will check that but the wireless was working immediately before the upgrade and then wasn't working immediately after. I didn't physically move or touch the router during the process so it seems unlikely that it would choose those exact few minutes to come loose or whatever?

I may be missing something but there doesn't seem to be an option to enable the wireless?

I'll also give the upgrade another run through as a last resort.

Either way, many thanks for your help. It might just be time for a new modem :/

Hmm ... have you actually checked the firmware menus? "Wireless->Setup->Enable AP"

There is no Wireless menu !

I have accessed the Wireless set up pages via a link in the upgrade documentation but they come up blank.

ie in upgrade.html

1. The wireless access point (AP) in the AR7WRD wireless firmwares is now disabled by default. This means that you need to enable it manually in the wireless setup (http://192.168.1.1/cgi-bin/webcm?getpag ... 20Security)

Are you sure you loaded a firmware with "AR7WRD" in the filename?
