D-Link often go to something like 5.8.8.8 but the default is usually in the APIPA (Automatic Private IP Addressing) range 169.254.0.0 -169.254.255.255 (for example 169.254.87.1), which windows PCs set to auto-dhcp should also go to. If the bootloader and network port working the PC-Tool should be able to find the IP. Good luck!

Sometimes the bootloader gets stuck in a reboot loop but then the lights often can be seen to cycle. Likely the switch LEDs are effectively hardware - so do not require cpu. Have you checked the PSU/ tried another?

Don't know - but you can try a ready-made one; see firmware-faq/#serial_console

The dku-5 is not the only one, ca-42 is another, but some some Nokia cables are just straight-through cable connectors without the 3.3V level shifter and definitely will not work, see also
https://forum.openwrt.org/viewtopic.php?pid=118756

Also note most cheap cables on ebay are cheap clones which can be made to work with similar phones to the Nokia original and many phones can work in different modes with different cables so don't take anything for granted!

You don't know how the header has been wired - the wiring may be unsuitable for your router.

If you want ready-made cables, read this: firmware-faq/#serial_console

Whatever you get it needs to be 3.3V at the router end.
