Just registered user and I'm going to check the forums out and maybe lend a hand with the questions I can handle:-).
But I also have one of my own which is surprisingly hard to Google.
I want to load test my routers (and maybe switches but this is a bit less important) with different kinds of traffic traffic, x number of ports open, x number of connections, and measure things like throughput, latency (high importance), packet variance (also very important).
So right now I just connect a workstation to the WAN port of the router, and do some ping tests (quite useless as I have found out they are all 1 ms or lower).
I've found a probably very expensive hardware load generator from Agilent, but there must be other things available. What is commonly used to test this?
many thanks for the 101 on router benchmarking:)
cheers,
Jeroen
