Hi all.
I have the following setup:
Comcast "Blast!" coming in the wall @ 50Mbps
Motorola SB6121 Modem
Cisco e3200 router
HP Pavilion dv6-6135dx with a ralink rt5390 wireless adapter
The problem is I get about 50mbps (speedtest.net) when hooked direct to modem and about 50mbps when wired directly to router. But as soon as I go wireless, I drop to about 17mbps.
All the equipment should support higher speeds. I would expect a drop in speed on wireless but not that much.
my computer is in the same room about 10 feet away.
any thought??
Cisco e3200 speed

The numbers you see on the product website or packaging is the max air data rate that the system can support, e.g. 54Mbps or 300Mbps. This rate is not the actual speed that you can move data across the link at! The air data rate is the combination of:
Your user data
Wireless error correction data
Network protocol overhead
Wireless communications that allow the AP and clients to get and stay connected
Space taken up by encryption
Retransmissions
And more!
Re: Cisco e3200 speed
What wireless mode are you using? Should get 20Mbps with wireless G (30Mbps with one of the speedbooster technologies) on wired to wireless. Wireless to wireless is half that due to transmissions being half-duplex.RayzRyd wrote: The problem is I get about 50mbps (speedtest.net) when hooked direct to modem and about 50mbps when wired directly to router. You should get higher speeds with wireless-N, use a tools such as netstumbler/ inssider (or equivalents on mobile phones) to find a clear wireless channel.
