Flaky behavior with D-LINK DIR-827 router

Post by wjtchir » Mon May 20, 2013 11:55 pm

I upgraded (?) my router because I was having issues with speed and connectivity with computers in other parts of the house. As part of the upgrade I relocated the router above the ceiling in our finished basement and have greatly improved connectivity with the computers on the second floor of the house.

I have issues with two computers with the new router. The main problem is with the computer that I used to set up the router. It is connected by cable to the router. I am running Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit) and it is up to date with important updates to the operating system.

The problem is that certain programs (Thunderbird e-mail client accessing hotmail, my son's Steam on-line gaming account) lose connectivity after a variable amount of time ... could be the same day, could be after several days. The only fix is to do the following: shut down the computer, shut down the router, restart the router, and restart the computer. This usually

I've had a few issues with my work laptop as well. I was unable to connect via wireless for a weekend. Both the router and the computer were shut down and restarted several times, to no avail. The error message was "Windows could not automatically detect this network's proxy settings".

The problem with the laptop went away by itself. The problem with my desktop computer has continued since the router was installed several weeks ago. Here is the report from the routertech diagnostic program.
