UDP 123 Problem?

Post by thedoc735 » Mon Mar 21, 2016 12:32 am

I have bought the Naim Uniti qute [1AB5 - BC SW: 2D12905 - Ident.: 11326WE] and I am unable to set the time? It keeps saying that I should check that UDP 123 isn't firewalled? Can anyone suggest a solution please?

Router: Netgear DGND3700v2 [V1.1.00.24_1.00.24]

Strange because the time is fine on my laptop and desktop PC through the same router! I can 'see' files via the uniti from my PC, laptop & TV set top box through this router, so it is definitely connected to my local LAN via the router & it says connected in the status field.

Laptop: HP Pavilion g6 [2382sa D0Y14EA#ABU]

O/S: MS Windows 10

Cheers!

That's a high end box - do any internet connected streaming services work? Does the box get a proper lan ip address? Correct time can be important for secure connections though. It is unusual for routers to block connections initiated from the lan - can you configure the internet site for the timeserver?

When I called naim and gave the reference number they told me that mine needed an optional upgrade for things like Spotify, and the iRadio folder is empty. I don't seem to be getting anything from the WAN side.

IP address is 192.168.0.80.

OK - I've put the naim uniti qute IP address in: 192.168.0.80
I've also put the time server's IP address range: 139.143.5.30/31 (ntp1.npl.co.uk / ntp2.npl.co.uk - I chose this server)
The Uniti has the WPA security code from the Netgear router and the netgear router has the MAC address of the UnitiQute.
Files are showing on the internal LAN side from other devices, however it is NOT stable (i.e. the files and folders keep disappearing?)
The time is still not showing?

cheers!

I'm surprised you don't allow the naim to get an IP from your router using dhcp. If doing this manually you also have to specify the netmask, default 255.255.255.0 and the lan IP address of your router as the gateway - I assume 192.168.0.1 ?

The DHCP didn't work! That's why I did it manually.
I know what you mean with the mask/gateway but the router GUI did not ask for those details.

Exact Uniti Message reads:

"Failed to obtain time. Neither server could be contacted. Check UDP 123 is not firewalled. Press OK to finish."

Looks like a previous owner had input the settings in RED!

Device Name: Qute-1AB5
Current Profile Name: Profile1
Mac Address: 00:1A:2B:82:1A:B5
Current IBSS State: false
Current SSID: 1969axkaroo
Current Encryption State: WPA-PSK-AES(CCM)
Current IP Address: 192.168.0.80
Current Netmask: 255.255.255.0
Current Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1
Current DNS1: 192.168.50.55
Current DNS2: 192.168.50.56
Current DHCP State: Static IP configuration
Current Proxy Server State: off
Current Proxy Server:
Current Proxy Server Port: 0

I changed this to DHCP:

Device Name: Qute-1AB5
Current Profile Name: Profile1
Mac Address: 00:1A:2B:82:1A:B5
Current IBSS State: false
Current SSID: 1969axkaroo
Current Encryption State: WPA-PSK-AES(CCM)
Current IP Address: 192.168.0.6
Current Netmask: 255.255.255.0
Current Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1
Current DNS1: 192.168.0.1
Current DNS2: 0.0.0.0
Current DHCP State: Got IP address from a DHCP server
Current Proxy Server State: off
Current Proxy Server:
Current Proxy Server Port: 0

Looks like time and radio are now fine!! ~ Figured this out myself!

HaHa, the old settings will nearly work, but they refer to a local custom DNS server, so the device unable to resolve any internet address entered as a name. Quite common for the router to act as a dNS forwarder. You should be able to reserve the device IP address in the router config, so you can always access it at the same address.
