Using DD WRT in Linksys WAP54G v3.1 with DLINK DIR 600L

Post by pas92 » Wed Oct 12, 2016 4:30 pm

Hi all,

I'm using DLINK DIR 600L as my modem and primary wireless router, and a Linksys WAP54G as wireless access point, that is connected to the DLINK via LAN.
I've flashed the Linksys with DD-WRT (v24 Micro Generic) in hope that I would be able to block youtube, torrent and such.

My problem is, the WAP web interface(192.168.1.1) works only when it is not connected to the DLINK(192.168.0.1). i.e., when there is no Internet connectivity with the WAP.
More importantly, none of the DD-WRT restriction settings assigned in the WAP seems to be working. I've tried the keyword filtering, URL filtering but nothing works. Its not even blocking a simple http website.
I assume the DD WRT settings doesn't get active once the WAP is connected with the DLINK.

I'd appreciate any solution or if you could point me in the right direction.

Thanks.

In case someone comes across this same situation, maybe this could save some of their time.

Now, the reason I was trying to use DD WRT with the WAP was the DIR600L doesn't support Openwrt / DD Wrt.
I wanted to use DD-WRT's https website filtering. What I did is this,

-> I was already using OpenDNS for the https block which is pretty good for a free product, but the users(both Windows and Android) could just change the DNS in their machines and bypass OpenDNS.

(In Android, changing from DHCP to Static makes the DNS server as Google by default, which is 8.8.8.8, and all the user has to do now is enter a IP address, to bypass OpenDNS).

-> Luckily DIR 600L allows me to block all DNS and force a specific DNS of my choice, in this case OpenDNS.
Never thought this low end model would have DNS filter option, since previously I had a difficult time in blocking ports in this router.

BTW, I used this guide here for DNS filtering: https://support.opendns.com/hc/en-us/ar ... wall-rules

Now no use for the WAP. :)

Goodluck!
