Router Stats Logger
Linksys WAG200G router
Should Router Stats Logger work under Windows XP with a Linksys WAG200G with Firmware 1.01.06, please? Including for tweaking the SNR margin threshold. I am not sure if Telnet works on this piece of kit (as it did on my ancient Inventel DW-B 200).
I loaded MSWINSCK.OCX to my Windows, System folder and registered it as instructed.
I also loaded and ran the VB6 runtime vbrun60sp5.exe installation routine.
But I still get the same "Failed to load control ‘NeoDNS’ from ." as Cracken above when I try to run it.
Sorry if I have missed out on something obvious. Any recommendations, please?

The router stats program does work under XP...
I don't think the WAG200G has Telnet in standard firmware (there may be a debug method of turning it on?) but there is at least one 3rd party rebuild of the Linksys firmware that does have Telnet - search for "Woytekm".
If Telnet enabled the WAG200G should work with the router stats program (Ti AR7 adsl chip) BUT I don't think it has ability to directly tweak the "Target SNR margin" which some other chipset do.

Can't see anything here about Vista
(I know; i know; I said I hated it and would NEVER use it ... I'm at work, I have no choice )
I have been running RUC today okay, but I can't run the RouterStats; I get the same error "Failed to load control ‘NeoDNS’ from ....". I'm assuming it's not Vista compatible just yet!?

Making apps Vista compatible can be a bit of a pain - it's possible the older Winsock control doesn't want to play ball in Vista...

Yeah I read through it; I already had VB6 runtimes installed and I used RUC just before it, and just now with v1.2.5; so must be Vista. I'll just have to try it when I get home with my tried and tested Win XP machine
Edit: *SLAPS HAND* Okay I just set it to run in Windows XP SP2 compatibility mode and ran as Administrator; it now works ... (such an idiot!)

I wasn't aware that you could connect RouterStatsLogger other than Telnet
with "cat /proc/net/dev" there is quite a lot of info for all the interfaces and the transmit/receive stats:
I'm using NetMeter on my all my machines at the moment; but it would be far easier to get the stats directly from the router, then there's no guess work involved

Routerstats uses Telnet, and could use web (maybe only the ruc does that?).
Not sure those stats are very useful, and not sure where ipaccount stores data if enabled. And on ram restricted routrs ipaccount and snmp are recommended to be turned off.
In this version of Linux (at least) there is a problem with byte counters looping due to the 32 bit = 4 GigaByte unsigned integer limit. I have read this can't be fixed in the kernel as it would break too many things. So any monitoring program needs to notice when numbers 'roll over' and add 4 Gig each time. I have noticed this issue in the web screen connection stats that probably have the same source. I guess there was a time when 4Gigabyte traffic was a future dream?

There is no problem I know of with the stats looping, - you can download more than a DVD's worth overnight (Debian distro of course!).

Monitoring bandwidth falls outside the RSL original remit which focused on the ADSL stats - the RSL is more about monitoring your ADSL connection and trying to tweak the SNR etcstudioeng wrote:I've probably missed this but I've looked through the util. Are you able to view/log down/up usage with the RouterStatsLogger ?? Is it possible to add it if not; so you can keep tabs on the global down/up usage from the router ??
Having said that, it wouldn't be too difficult to add some simple bandwidth monitoring to the RSL

Version 1.0.23 is now available with bandwidth monitoring
Please note that the daily totals (and subsequently weekly and monthly totals) will only be accurate if the bandwidth monitoring is run regularly - ideally daily
