Rover ech logo!!

Post by ezypcy » Thu Apr 20, 2006 9:42 am

Good luck with the new forum etc.
It does seem slightly unfair for me to start off with a negative comment
regarding the logo design.
It may have a arty effect but my eyes read it on the screen, mug and
t-shirt as 'Rover ech'.Colour scheme!?

I look forward to learning and a bit of fun here.

Thanks for your comments there, ezypcy ;)

It may not be 100% clear, but it definitely says "RouterTech" or "RouTerTech" to be really pedantic. I submitted a lot of designs and that particular design got the most votes :)

And if you think that's bad, you should see what I'm seeing over at google at the moment! :o  (see attached)

It is interesting you should say that. A one or two (admittedly out of the many) people I have spoken to about the logo, said the same thing.

The problem for these two people was twofold;

1. They hadn't realised the interconnecting wires (ethernet :) ) made up the letter T for both the first and second word but in different places. As many adverts, designs and posters use this effect, I think we have to accept that most people will get it and for the few that don't well, thats just the way it goes.

2. The U being read as a V. This also happend about the same number of times as the problem with the T. I will agree with you more on this one though. While the shape is again supposed to be flexible cable (the whole word is, also note Tech is in eternet style too), it can be misread. Still, I think the fact that on the site it states clearly in normal text what the words are (see to the right of the logo), and also on the merchandise the URL is also provided in most cases.

Thanks for your input though, these kind of comments are useful.... we don't want people thinking we spend all day looking at a certain type of car and saying blimmin' 'ech ;)

Thanks for your support Kieran

It would have been better if you had said that a few months ago

The letter in our logo will always be a U for me - a U for "RouterTech, UR the best", a U for "RouterTech, UR tops" and never a V for "Vroom, there goes another Rover". I suppose you have to be in a nerdy frame of mind (i.e. frequently thinking about routers) to read our logo correctly :P.

Although the logic behind the logo is good. But I think a little bit of tinkering can make it even more better. My suggestion would be to change the Orange color to Blue as blue is energizing 8)

Colour changes are out I'm afraid. The site and logo colour scheme was something the whole team agreed on, and many others have complemented us on since. It will not therefore be changing any time soon (quite possibly ever).

Cultural and personal associations and preferences not withstanding, orange is typically a stimulating colour. Yellow and red are stimulating but red can be overly aggressive and yellow text can be difficult to read. If you don't believe orange is stimulating just ask Uri Gellar :)

Also, blues (and therefore to some extent greens/purples) tend to be relaxing. Looking at a clear blue sky and sparkling blue ocean tends to have that effect :). This is all rather basic colour-psychology ;)

Hmm very interesting but my observation is the blue color is favoured by business people when it comes to shirts because of its enegizing factor. :)

Ask the business professionals. Although traditionally here this color is liked by those people who have very strong appeal for sex :P
