Search for a phrase...

Post by Neo » Tue May 30, 2006 5:37 pm

Sorry for being a doofus but how do you search for a phrase on a phpbb forum?

The two main options are
  1. Search for any terms or use query as entered
  2. Search for all terms
but I would like to search for a phrase like "who told you that" or whatever. "Who AND told AND you AND that" would bring up a post which had each of those words, but it would be irrespective of order and position.

I've tried enclosing a phrase in quotation marks (akin to Google) but that doesn't seem to work :?

Is it possible in an unmodded phpbb forum?

After some searching

I did find:

My conclusion would be that phrase searching requires a MOD (since it doesn't appear to be built-in).

Yes, this would need a MOD, perhaps a project for me at somepoint ;)

I have added this to my list of things to do for the next forum upgrade. If I had noticed it before the most recent one I would have written something, still I haven't forgotten and will update this thread when there is a working solution in place :)
