To be honest, I haven't fiddled with the settings, it took me long enough to get it working the first time round. It works perfectly fine for me, I've not needed to touch it.

her use it more often, maybe she might get the hang of it; but then I suppose just watching Emmerdale or Eastenders on it all the time is a real waste.

Sorry, that didn't make any sense.
When you say; 'dropouts with a heavy load', what exactly are you doing with the connection; from past experience when I have been downloading P2P, I get a bad voice connection, but when I stop/pause the downloads, the voice connection is perfect.
If this is the case with you, maybe reducing the number of torrents downloading at one time may help; or even getting a second ADSL line. Due to the nature of VoIP and P2P, they don't go well together unless you've got either specialised kit, or you know what your doing.
