Dnsmasq

Post by davidedrury » Tue Jun 23, 2009 2:57 pm

Hi folks,

Can someone explain how to install and run dnsmasq (I'm using an SAR600EW R series with v2.9 firmware). I assume that however it's installed it wouldn't survive a reset.

Thanks

There is a pre-compiled binary in the software repository here (not the latest versions I recall). It runs, but you need to manually create a config file and hasn't been extensively tested. You can test it by running from the ram disk /var. If it does what you want you could store on a minix mtd5 /nvram and run with a start-up script.

dnsmasq is used by other adsl/ethernet routers, including tomato on a WRT54GL (or similar). It potentially does both dns proxy and lan dhcpd with lots of custom options, and is an actively maintained current project - but it is bigger and incompatible with the current web gui and core-logic.
