V5 Firmware for SWART2-54125

Post by Dorcots » Wed Nov 07, 2007 2:27 am

When I tried to upgrade my SWART2-54125 from ‘T370.061227a1_57’ fitting what I thought was the latest version from Safecom, I bricked my SWART2-54125. Then I found this forum and see there is hope. I have started the recovery using PC Tools (that 6-second wait seems critical a period!) and am now ready to download the correct version.

I see that the link to a suitable version was provided by Safecom in January but is now dead (presumably so that V4 user do not try it). However, Safecom have not responded to my requests for it to be emailed. Does anyone have a copy of Safecom V5 firmware for the SWART2-54125?

If and when I get that working, I would like to move on to using RouterTech’s firmware (I would not expect it to have the DDNS fault that started this). My processor chip is TNETD7200. Can someone tell me whether RouterTech’s “TNETW1350A Release” is the correct one for my processor? I understand that “TNETW1350A” refers to a wireless chip but cannot find such a chip on my router. I can provide photos of all the chips if that helps.

Looking forward to receiving assistance.

7 Nov 2007: Changed '64125' to '54125'

I'm not sure upgrading to V5 is such a good idea: index.php?article=3 ;)

The RUC should give some indication about upgradibility to an RT firmware ;)

TNETW1350A refers to the wireless chip which is separate from the processor chip. A router can have practically any combination of processor chip and wireless chip. It seems there has been some success in upgrading a TNETD7200 based router to an RT firmware: viewtopic.php?t=1058

I would suggest reading through that thread first, to get an idea of what it might involve ;)

Is that the correct model number or a typo ?

Strange a reply to your plea for help on the other forum has been deleted, Shame their Admin can't make as much of an effort in trying to help people that have spent money on their products as they do in removing posts from people trying to give help ( albeit via a self funded forum that has the knowledge and experience to help !).

Personally would try the RT firmware as you have mastered the PCTool and have a dead router then have nothing to lose, unless you want to try and get it replaced under warranty ( warranty will have expired before you get a copy of the original firmware :x )

That is a much later release than Safecom V5.

What is written on the wireless card in your router?

FWIW, judging from the version number of your original firmware, I would say that it is a TNETW1350A device.

The wireless card has two labels:
WMTO371 ESTI
FW: 120.06.00.06
00120E xxxxxx
and
ABO 91
F1/OK

It seems likely that I will be following the advice to go straight for RT firmware when I am confident on which one to fit.

I have been unable to find any TI information on any TNETDnnnn devices. It could be that they are application specific (i.e. designed to order) based on TI microcontrollers. Does anyone know? Safecom refer to two of them (the 7300A and the 7200) at http://www.google.co.uk/search?num=100& ... arch&meta=.

The important thing is the wireless chip. From the firmware version number (120.x.x), I would say that you have the TNETW1350A wireless chip, and so the RT firmware for that chipset should be fine. In any case, I doubt that you can brick it any more than you already have.

Still having trouble and would really appreciate further help.

Downloading "RouterTech_ROHS_3.7.1B_20071020_2.4.0_AR7WRD_psbl_firmware.upgrade.img" failed. The PCTools log was as follows:
220 ADAM2 FTP Server ready
331 Password required for adam2
230 User adam2 successfully logged in.
200 Type set to I
200 Media set to SDRAM
200 Media set to FLSH
200 Port command successful.
Data Connection created
Sending STOR command to the target...
120 service ready in 33 seconds
MTD4 is missing, entering compatibility mode...
150 Opening BINARY mode data connection for file transfer.
Error Creating Socket for Data connection failed

So it seems that I have the ADAM2 bootloader...

Just to confirm my router type. It does have the RoHS symbol on the case and uses 4MB FLASH (a 29LV320 under the wireless module). It was purchased from Aria in August.

Should I try another version (2.4 does not seem to have an ADAM2 version). It so which one?

Update. Got slightly better (?) results by using the later PCTools (2.3):
200 GETENV command successful
200 SETENV command successful
200 SETENV command successful
200 SETENV command successful
200 Port command successful
Data connection Created.
Sending STOR command to the target...
550 Data Socket not ready.

Don't worry about the "adam2" prompt, pspboot does that as well for backward compatability. Can you temporarily disable any software firewall when using the PC-Tool and try again.

Run "v240-env.txt" as a script, via the pctool, and immediately afterwards (i.e., without rebooting), try flashing the firmware again.

Tried that and with some repeated factory restarts (button at the back as well as from the browser) I am now home and dry using the TNETW1350A release of firmware.

Thanks for all your help - I would certainly have been stuck without it.

Cool :). Is the wireless functionality working as well?

Yes - As you might expect, I had to run WirelessEnvBuilder.exe.
