Sure, it's not a huge issue to me. It just concerns me that the fragmentation is a cause of the other problems I'm experiencing (darkstat failing to start, inability to change log levels). It's plausible that it's another symptom of a more serious problem.

Of course it might not be caused by environment fragmentation at all, but if more can't read the environment properly, it's plausible that some of the RT shell scripts can't either.

All my log levels are set to Alert after default settings (hard and soft). Changing them results in it still displaying Alert. Haven't had a chance to reboot the router yet to see if it changes after reboot.

Yes, you've got a point there. Fragmentation is the good news (if that is the problem). If that is not the problem, then I can only think of bad news - problems with the flash chips.

Hi Shotokan101 and Thechief,

thank you for your answers.

For Shotokan101: where can I set MRU?

For Thechief: yes I did reset to default by push the rear button.

Thank again.

The MRU setting is on the screen for your connection settings.

Pushing the reset button doesn't always work. The only guaranteed way is to do it from the web interface.

Hi Thechief,

I have a "static" connection, so no MRU setting for me.

I did reset as you suggested, I'll let you know if anything changed.

Thank you!!

Bye

Hello

I read in the FAQ that you can only ssh into a wireless router on this firmware. Is it possible with additional "tweaking" to ssh into none wireless routers?

I use to be able to do so on the stock firmware, but of course THAT was all it was good for.

Thanks.

If your router has a 4mb flash chip (the ADSL2MUE has 4mb flash), then you can use the "4mb flash" version of the non-wireless firmware. That has dropbear in it, and so you'll be able to use ssh.

Yeah sure. I saved the output to a txt file since something in it was preventing me from posting.

Thanks.

Flash memory (chip) information
Flash type: AMD; Manufacturer=MACRONIX (AMD-compat).
Manufacturer_ID=0x00C2; Chip_ID=0x0049; Chip_Size=0x400000; Erase_Regions=0x0004
Seems that the actual physical capacity of the flash chip is 4mb, but it has been partitioned as a 2mb chip. That makes sense since the RAM is just 8mb - including extra stuff in the flash when the amount of RAM is not up to it would be pointless. I am not confident that you would actually be able re-partition your flash as a full 4mb flash, so it is best to leave well alone.

Interesting, this is the second report we have had of an unusual ADSL2MUE, certainly Linksys firmware was always small enough for 2MB.

Your ADSL2MUE:-
Flash memory (chip) information
Flash type: AMD; Manufacturer=MACRONIX (AMD-compat).
Manufacturer_ID=0x00C2; Chip_ID=0x0049; Chip_Size=0x400000; Erase_Regions=0x0004

My 4MB flash ADSL2MUE
Flash memory (chip) information
Flash type: AMD; Manufacturer=MACRONIX (AMD-compat).
Manufacturer_ID=0x00C2; Chip_ID=0x00A8; Chip_Size=0x400000; Erase_Regions=0x0002

Does your device have any 'history', the bootloader version

Code: Select all

bootloaderVersion	1.2.1.5
is also different, mine came with

Code: Select all

1.2.0.4
I'm wondering if you have ever tried a firmware which upgraded the bootloder to a 2MB flash version?

The modem doesnt really have any real history. I brought it with the New Zealand version of the stock firmware (I cant remember the exact version number as theirs no reference to this firmware anywhere. Even LinksysNZ links to Australian only firmware).

Then, in an effort to add functionality, I tried installing version4.17AU of the Linksys firmware and been using it for the last 2 years until recently when I discovered RouterTech.

My wireless supports ssh, so i'll have a play around with that. I havent had any luck connecting to it on the WAN side as yet and forwarding the ssh port from the modem to the wireless has been unsuccessful but I'll work on it.

Thanks for the help.
