This one looks pretty close to the SWAMRU

...no printserver functionality though :?

EDIT: removed adsl2/2+ remark as it isn't

Hi, me again! My GWART2 has been running 24/7 for the last few months and rock solid stable, which is nice!

I did ask back in June if "The Linux DNS issue" had been resolved, and was told by the Chief that it would be in the next releasae. I was just wonder when that was, I spent several hours last night scratching my head over why a new Linux box could ping the net using DNS resolution, but couldn't get to the repositories... several cups of coffee later ti dawned on my that it was the router that was the problem, not the new machine...

So, I hate to ask (really I do) but any idea on the next release date?

Installed it last night, turned the PC on this morning and still running well, many thanks! I'll let you know how things go over the next few weeks. I'm also using UPnP...

Oh well done guys.

I might have to invest in one of these routers to replace my elderly ASR-8400 (Silver Ed.)!

Niall.
Don't touch that! That light means that the router needs more salt!

Sorry about above edit. Actually I have a problem with the SART2-4115 version of the RT firmware (The cutdown non wireless version). So I hope it's appropriate to post in this thread. I have put the fw on 3 routers and when Upnp is enabled they all seem to continually reboot at 5 minute intervals. I have no apps running (just FF browser) and my Winxp has Upnp disabled. Is it best to switch Upnp off as it seems perfectly stable then? My last log entry shows:-

Sep 21 09:05:36 | Lost SIGCHLD, process iptables(230) died

Edit - Last reboot after 1 hour 20 mins. Lasts longer now.

Sep 21 10:35:51 | Lost SIGCHLD, process iptables(250) died

This is from the changelog:
changelog wrote: Known issues
* No USB suppport for the 4-port versions
* SNMP will probably still kill the router, requiring a reboot (it eats memory, until the router runs of out RAM and crashes). The new IPAccount feature provides some of the information that would normally be sought by using SNMP
* UPnP will also probably do the same as SNMP
The real problem is that the SART2s (and clones) are RAM-challenged. 8mb RAM is a tight fit to run all the things that we would like to support - but we're on to it. Unfortunately, it will involve disabling some more features.

Thanks. I thought it might be a free memory problem, as the problem is much better on the wireless models that have more memory.
Thechief have you worked out how much free memory Upnp actually needs to run or (perhaps due to the code you have inherited) will it always eventually crash any router given any amount of free memory?

It is difficult to work out how much free memory it would need, but it requires a lot of free memory to even start (at least 6 instances are spawned when it starts, and there are several instances running at all material times). If each instance uses 4.1% of your RAM (which is what it uses on my SWAMR), that is 25% of RAM taken up just to start it. With the SART2s there is precious little free memory left after the kernel and other essential processes load. On a system with a hard disk, the system would use virtual memory - slow, but it would work. On a router which has no hard disk to swap to, you would get an almighty crash.

Like I said, we are on to it, and may soon be able to come up with something for RAM-challenged routers.

Do you have IPAccount enabled? If so, then perhaps you might wish to disable it and then see whether your upnp will survive.
