Obtaining help with RouterTech firmwares

Post by thechief » Tue Dec 09, 2008 8:42 am

This thread is meant to provide a checklist for those seeking help with RouterTech firmwares that have been obtained from this forum (NOTE: we will only support RouterTech firmwares that were obtained from this forum. We will NOT support any unofficial RouterTech firmware distribution).

The RouterTech team are doing this work on a voluntary basis. This means that we all have our day jobs, our time is very precious, and we do not have the time to waste.

The signal-to-noise ratio on this forum would remain at a very high level, and our time would be better spent, if everyone who wants help with our firmware observes certain principles.

So, if you want any help with RouterTech firmwares (or, indeed, any other firmware), please be sure to observe ALL these principles:

1. First of all, before posting your question, and certainly, before upgrading your firmware, read ALL THE DOCUMENTATION supplied with the firmware (starting with index.html).

2. Secondly, before posting your question, read the FIRMWARE FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS. It is very likely that you will find the answers there.

3. Thirdly, before posting your question, do a FORUM SEARCH. It is unlikely that you will have any problem that no-one else has experienced before, and it is MOST PROBABLE that your question has been answered already in the forum (probably several times over). If so, then asking the same question again amounts to a serious waste of everybody's time.

4. When reporting a problem with your router after upgrading your firmware (particularly if your router is "bricked" - i.e., non-functional), please be sure to first read these de-bricking threads BEFORE posting on the forum:

viewtopic.php?t=335
viewtopic.php?t=524
viewtopic.php?t=242

5. When you do eventually post on the forum, please be ready to supply ALL the following details:

A. What is the specific name and model of your router:
B. What was your router's firmware version before upgrading:
C. What was the specific RouterTech firmware image that you flashed onto your router:
D. Please post all the output that you received from the RUC before upgrading your firmware:
E. Please post the contents of your current RouterTech firmware's System Diagnostics:
F. Did you upgrade via ethernet or wireless connection:
G. Did you upgrade via the web interface, or via the PC Tool, or some other tool:
H. Was there any error or problem while you were upgrading the firmware:
I. If so, what was the specific error/problem, and what did you do to try to overcome it:
J. Did you reset the router to factory defaults both before and after upgrading:
K. Describe in detail the current state of your router, and what you have done to try to fix the problem:

It will be very difficult to assist you if you do not supply all these details, and we are unlikely to be very patient with the noise that necessarily follows the failure to provide all required information.
The Chief: :afro: Be sure to read the Firmware FAQ and do a Forum Search before posting!
