[Solved] HOW to install Bootloader with JTAG?

Post by riadhos » Thu Oct 01, 2009 3:53 pm

Hello,
after lot of experiences on my CNET-854, the rooter don't respond even to PC-TOOL/RRT at the starting, (cause: I tried installing original firmware and bot loader obtained from official site with TI_update_vc.exe) seems that bootloader is broken, no ftp could be open to adam2 too ...

how to install new one?

thanks

Re: [REQ] HOW to install Bootloader?

I guess you know this - your bootloader was fine and no need to update!

But I don't think your wireless was working!

If you really have trashed the bootloader the only solution is JTAG, a custom cable assuming the connections are accessible to solder onto the board. Do you have a web link to the original firmware you used?

But do check using a hub between router and PC, and check other IP addresses - windows IPAPA 169... range can be a default if the config is trashed.

If only config wrong a serial console cable can be useful, but the time to get this to work is when the router is working...

No, JTAG and a serial console cable are not the same thing. You should have left your bootloader well alone. If you have indeed trashed the bootloader, then JTAG is the only solution. You can search this forum for JTAG. Be prepared for some considerable electronics work. Good luck.

Give us a link to a photo of the board - if the JTAG is there there should be a set of 14 pins or just pads in 2*7 arrangement.

The only alternative to JTAG is a little drastic - take off the flash chip and program it in a special programmer

The board there says it is a PTI 845G

The JTAG will be the 14 pads that are crossed by the sticker on the flash chip I reckon, will be a pig to clear the solder - use new solder to wet - then solder sucker to extract!

I assume the 4 pads in a row next to is will be the serial console connection.

helo,
i am tring to make an XILINX cable

but i dont see same numbers on pin, is their a mirror effect or what,
also the pins on the router are

1 3 5 7 9 11 13
2 4 6 8 10 12 14

but on the schema

14 ....

What schema are you referring to?

This is the one I have used a couple of times - it should be easy to check if one row is all connected to ground.

Well that just looks wrong the top "14" is in the wrong place

Image

Dil headers have plugs and sockets that crimp onto ribbon cables, the numbering there is not how that maps. Of course there could be a non-standard router mislabelled like that! I think you will find the rest of the details are the same - but your router seems to have the pins a mirror image - designed to fit the header from below?
