Thanks

Modem running for some time, probably a few hours later, http (192.168.1.1) and telnet (192.168.1.1) and ftp (192.168.1.1) all failed, unable to connect.
But the Internet connection is normal, then after restarting the Modem function back to normal, and why?
Post the complete system diagnostics. The one you posted is not complete.

That is what is available.

Well, for the time being I've just set all the router log levels to "Panic", which hardly ever happens. This way I have my logs empty.
And how will you diagnose any problems that may arise?

I don't need diagnostics. The router simply works. When problems occur, I'll turn the logging back on. You see, my problem is uptime. I have only 8 MB RAM and when the router runs for a month, logging on becomes difficult and the device responds slowly to commands. When I turn the logging off, I have almost unlimited uptime (limited only by blackouts
)
Or do you think I should leave the logging on and set a cronjob to run "clearlog.sh" every few days?

Yes. Try weekly first, and if that doesn't help, then every 3 days or so. You may also want to run "dmesg -c" at the same time as "clearlog.sh".

If there is no connection, then how are you posting this? You should run the system diagnostics when the router is functioning as you would normally be using it (and after about an hour of use).
First of all, defragment your environment.

Thanks for your reply!
Do not know why a successful connection is not shown, in fact, I only use the bridge type, do not use other connection type.
Also how to defragment my environment? use 'fixenv' instructions or other operations? Please tell me how to do it.

There is full information in the firmware FAQ about defragmenting - but, yes, "fixenv" is what you need to run.
910 root 2676 S /usr/sbin/pppd plugin pppoa 0.38 user user@ispname p
If you are using a bridged connection, this tells me that you have more than one connection. This can only lead to trouble. Delete the one that you are not using.

thechief wrote:Yes. You may also want to run "dmesg -c" at the same time as "clearlog.sh".
To be specific, I have in my bootloader settings two options now:
RT_cmd_1 write_crontab.sh '5' '2' '*' '*' '0,2,4,6' 'clearlog.sh'
RT_cmd_2 write_crontab.sh '5' '2' '*' '*' '0,2,4,6' 'dmesg -c'
(Taken from System Diagnostics info.)
Is this OK?
I have only some limited experience with creating cron jobs.

That should be fine, although you might want either to chain the commands
Code: Select all
RT_cmd_1 write_crontab.sh '5' '2' '*' '*' '0,2,4,6' 'clearlog.sh && dmesg -c'
or let them run at different minutes.
Code: Select all
RT_cmd_1 write_crontab.sh '5' '2' '*' '*' '0,2,4,6' 'clearlog.sh'
RT_cmd_2 write_crontab.sh '6' '2' '*' '*' '0,2,4,6' 'dmesg -c'

Wouldn't it be great if the "dmesg -c" feature was mentioned in the FAQ under
Q: How can I optimise memory on my router?
clearlog.sh is already (t)here. I personally didn't know that "dmesg -c" even existed. I used "dmesg" for a couple of times to see what was going on in my device.

Yes, it could be in the FAQ as a separate item (it is called by freememory.sh).

See these words in the FAQ:
"Make sure that you don't have more than one active connection - if you are not using the default "quickstart" connection, then you must delete it; "
oh, should be the reason.
Thanks for your help, thechief

15. The "Restart" button in the "System" menu has been removed. There was no point in having two ways of rebooting the router in the web admin. Use "Tools->Reboot Router" instead.
It is not redundant too System and Tools Menus that are the same?
