Need help debricking AirTies RT-205

Post by ckking » Wed Oct 09, 2013 5:09 pm

Hello I tried to install RouterTech fw but my router is bricked. Sadly I thought I got mtd3 backup but I later saw it is only 1kb in size and contains null. Bootloader is still alive luckily but that's all. So far I tried restoring AirTies firware and Router tech firmware but in serial console I get this:

BOOTCFG m:f:mtd1
This is the problem. It should read
BOOTCFG m:f:"mtd1"
- note the double quotes; without them, the router will not boot.

Yep that was the problem. Thanks Chief. Weird thing is I had double quotes in my script. Must be windows ftp thing. Anyways now router is restored to original fw. I might try to flash rt fw again in coming days.

Hi,

As promised i flashed again RT FW. But this time i have serial console and can see more. Seems the router isnt bricked, it boots actually fine. The problem is ethernet port gives no response to ping, arp, dhcp or anything. Also wireless works too i can authenticate but cant get an IP. The LEDs light up if ethernet cable is connected tho. I post diagnostics info which i gathered through serial. Seems a kernel issue to me ?

It seems to me that something about the single ethernet port is not standard, which is why it is unsupported - in which case, you have to stick with your manufacturer's firmware.

This is a very long shot - but perhaps setting MAC_PORT to 1 (one) and rebooting will help. If it doesn't, then you need to restore it to 0 (zero).

Hey Chief,

Setting MAC_PORT didnt help. Even if Ethernet Port not standart wireless should work, no ? As I said i can authenticate but cant get any ip. Is there maybe any tcpdump like tool for this architecture so i can check whats coming to interfaces ? I will try to make this work a little bit longer. If you need any logs outputs etc i can provide. Thanks.

All things being equal, wireless should work. Running the "dmesg" command will show you more things. Whether any of it would be helpful is another matter, because you would have seen most of it at the serial console.

I hope you see this as an email notification.

How did you connect the rt-205 with serial? I can't see any serial pins on board. there is only a 10 pin array but none of them are tx-rx.

How did you connect it? Can you share pin connection schema?
