2 routers on one wired network?

Post by kannz » Mon Dec 03, 2007 5:03 pm

ive had the same dlink DI 604 switch for a long time but i needed to have faster lan speeds so i bought a new dlink gaming router and replaced my switch with that. so it goes cable modem then very old 604 dlink and then i have a cable going through my wall downstairs into the new router. but it doesnt work right. it gave me a weird error
THE ADDRESSING OF THE INTERNET SIDE LEARNT THRU DHCP CONFLICTS WITH THE ADDRESSING SELECTED
FOR THE LAN SIDE. INTERNET COMMUNICATIONS WILL BE DISABLED UNTIL YOU HAVE CHANGED THE LAN SIDE
ADDRESSING TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM
after that i figured out off the net that if i disable dhcp on the new router and connect the wan to lan from the old router to my new one it should work but it doesnt before it just said disconnected but now the connection sets up and then drops. but while the connection is there it doesnt let me on the net. it just turns on and off over and over again. im tired and im getting a headache...any help would be appreciated

Not quite sure how you are connecting things, is it like this http://www.tech24.arce.co.uk/natnat.htm (with the cable modem taking the place of the filter in the diagram)

or are you trying something like this http://www.tech24.arce.co.uk/rap.htm
