A few sites load but most do not?

Post by e-type » Sat Mar 01, 2008 2:01 pm

I have 2 desk-tops and a lap-top. One desk-top is connected by cable to the router the others are wireless. All are WinXP service pack 2.
The router is a SWAMR-54108.
The wireless desk-top has Norton av loaded ,the lap-top AVG.free. I can update Norton without a problem but am unable to update the lap-top with AVG ( the cabled desk-top also uses AVG and updates without a problem). I can access e-mails OE or Thunderbird through all 3 computers but only a few web sites can be accessed through the wireless connection, most will not load. I can ping sites but not access them! I have no trouble via the cabled connection. My wireless connection strength is always v.good or excellent.
The situation is mystifying can anyone help? :(

Not a forum issue. Moved to General.

Reduce your router's MRU/MTU setting until you can connect. Start by reducing it to 1452. If that doesn't work, then reduce it to 1400.

Maybe you want to download DrTcp and run it both on the desktop and laptop, and see what the differences are. The culprit is usually the MTU - but there may be something else ...

You can also use DrTcp to tune your network settings.

Which ISP are you with?

Do you use their DNS servers? If so try using openDNS.

I don't completely follow the Drtcp bit. I have down loaded it into my memory stick but when I applied it to the other computers nothing seemed to happen.
I did a scan (as per Drtcp instructions) on the system and input the results into Drtcp on the 2nd computer but it did a 'peeep' and did not show any results.

I use Orange.
I tried the OpenDNS but couldn't even get to 'Google'
But thanks for the suggestion. :)

Hello Biro

If you mean' what security 'then its WPA! Other-wise I assume nothing!!!

The number T360C.060208a2_04 appears to look like a firmware number.
