SWSAPUR-5400 - Getting Started

Post by jpeg » Wed Apr 09, 2008 2:28 pm

I'm trying to achieve the first connection with my SWSAPUR-5400.

I've taken the following steps:
Installed the harddisk in the unit
turned on with lan plugged in directly from laptop to unit
configured lan controller in laptop with 192.168.123.1/ 255.255.255.0/ 192.168.123.254 as per instructions.

I can't make any connection to the unit - am trying 192.168.123.254:2005 in IE - it just times out. (note - I'm using IE7)
I've tried different machines, one xp, one vista, both with IE7, I've also switched Lan cables.

When I try to connect the lan light on the unit flashes ok.

Any ideas, or have I got a dud unit, or have I misunderstood the instructions?

(This is very embarrassing as I'm in IT by trade as a developer, so I'm not used to having to make "I'm noob - help me" postings! :? )

Thanks for any help you can give

I've tried 192.168.123.1 and 192.168.123.88 to copy the user manual exactly.

Are any other LED's lit / flashing ?
Have you tried a factory reset ?
Can you ping 192.168.123.254 ?

Have you tried connecting it and a PC through a hub or router, can't remember now if when it's connected to a router it gets an IP through DHCP or if it has to be setup first on it's factory IP ( can't test as no longer using factory firmware ).

Just the power and the lan cable - all others are dark
Have you tried a factory reset ?

Yes. It appeared to work with all leds flashing as per instructions
Can you ping 192.168.123.254 ?

No. All packets are lost.

According to the instructions it needs a "direct connection" ie single cable from pc to the unit. Have also tried via a router but this made no difference at all and the router didn't show the unit in its DHCP clients list.

One thought - It doesn't require that the HDD is installed for the unit to work does it? (It was installed but I removed it to cut down the number of variables!)

Is the HD formatted as NTFS? - I think you may need the drive installed for the device to work.....

Sorry to resurrect this old thread - had a busy couple of weeks (and built a new mediacenter and installed a NAS!).

Now I'm back to trying to get this thing to work.

I've reformatted my disk as FAT32 (32GB of it anyway). This hasn't changed anything.

Just a note. The LAN led does appear to be responsive. When using the direct connection removing or replacing the LAN cable is turning the led on/off.

What is the AP Storage app for? - I can't find reference to it in the manual. All that happens when I run it is that the combobox and viewer beneath are empty. The query causes the app to think for a second, but nothing else happens.

Are there any changes required to my windows firewall etc? - I've allowed port 2005 through incase it helps.

I suppose the question really is whether my unit is dud, or whether I'm doing something wrong here!

Any help gratefully received.

Thanks
