Router and USB Webcam

Post by jiml » Sun May 18, 2008 8:46 am

The more I look at routers and the fact that they use Linux the more they look like a piece of hardware I have been looking for for a long while.
A cheap low power Linux box with USB.
I know it's outside the scope of routers but could a firmware be concieved that acts as a webcam server. So you would in fact have a wireless webcam.

Have a look at the spec of the box I linked to here

viewtopic.php?t=1601

Its only available on tied mobile phone-like contracts in France (but a few crop up on ebay). Only hardware downside I see is the lack of external antennae.

But if you take into account the cost of developing new firmware, you'd could probably now do what you want with a pretty full Linux Asus eeepc?

OK I will look at these
I have looked at the following site.
But buying seems very difficult
I emailed them and suggested they go on ebay, but no response.
I think if someone wants to make a fortune this could be the way
What I wanted was a small PC with USB and possible VGA for next to my TV so I could web browes etc.
No fan or 5billlon Ghz CPU
