DSL-320T, Linksys-Router, PPTP

Post by shane4711 » Thu Jul 24, 2008 10:00 am

:?: Hi! Due to a mistake I bought the modem D-link DSL-320T. But this does not seem to be the right joice for me.
I use a Linksys-Router RV042 and my telecom-connection is ADSL which uses PPTP. With a speedtouch-modem 510 everything is working fine. I set the router to PPTP (WAN-port) put in User and password, use IP-adress 10.0.0.2 on the router and 10.0.0.138 on the modem.
But I can not connect with the DSL-320T and the router.
It only works with a single PC. I setup the modem to PPoA, put in VPI, VC, VC-MUX, user and password on the WAN-IF, set the LAN-link (connection to PC) to DHCP on (range 192.168.1.0/24) and set the PC LAN-IF to get automatic IP-adresse. The PC shows (that's interesting) not the 192.168.1.x address, it has an official IP-adresse of the provider. But it works! So I thought, when I set the router IF to "get IP-address from DHCP" it also will work. But it does not. I can see the official ip-address on the routers WAN-IF, but I get no connection to the internet. Even not with correct DNS. I can only ping my official IP-address, but do not reach anything else. Any ideas? Can I use my DSL-320T, or do I have to buy a Speedtouch510 again?

It seems the 320T is running the D-Link half-bridge code called "ZIPB". I do not know about PPTP, but if it works with a PC and PPPOA, maybe that's just what the Speedtouch calls it?

Routers not working with half-bridge modems is usually down to the unusual gateways and netmasks that appear.

RouterTech firmware on the 320T will turn the 320T into a router, by default. Half-bridge modes (developed/tested with PPPOA) with lots of options to improve compatibility with routers can be enabled by script command - but I am not aware of any other users with RV042 and PPTP.

:D Well, this Firmware is really great. Installed it, just entered the providers data and it works. Not worrying about "half-bridge" etc.
