Routing according to ip range in routertech?

Post by Malvis » Fri Apr 03, 2009 11:21 pm

Hi Guys

Not too sure how to word this properly, so please bear with me! I'll explain as best I can....

Right, so my router connects to the internet via pppoe. My current LAN is setup via the IP Address range 192.168.0.0 - the router being 1, the pc's 2,3,4 etc.... Default Gateway is 192.168.0.1, DNS the same - 192.168.0.1 (the router)

Can browse the internet - all is hunky dorey.

Now, I have a wireless network which I have joined via a Mikrotik routerboard. To access the wireless network, I change the gateway and DNS on my PC to 192.168.0.50 and it uses NAT to access the wireless network. (172.19.255.0 range). That means, if I change the default gateway and DNS on my pc to 192.168.0.50 I can access the content on the wireless network.

Now the question is, it is a bit of a pain always having to change my Gateway and DNS each time I want to swap between the 2 networks. Instead of always changing the gateway and DNS - is there a way to add a route/something in IP tables to automatically route any requests to the 172.19.255.0 range through the routertech router, to the mikrotik router - and then out to the wireless network?

So, to summarize:

Routertech Router - Set IP at 192.168.0.1, connects to Internet via PPPOE
Mikrotik Router - Set ethernet IP at 192.168.0.50, Wireless IP 172.19.255.62/39 - NATTED

PC - SET IP at 192.168.0.2.
If I want to use internet : Gateway = 192.168.0.1 / DNS 192.168.0.1.

If I want to access content on other pc's via the wireless connection : Gateway = 192.168.0.50 / DNS = 192.168.0.50
All content on the wireless network is in address range 172.19.255.0

Any idea where to start? Is there a way for the routertech router to route certain traffic (172.19.255.0) to a different gateway/dns(192.168.0.50), and leave internet traffic as is?
