DSL-G604T repaired!

Post by dom_b » Sun Mar 14, 2010 1:42 am

Just managed to repair my bricked G604T using some of the info form this forum and using the latest router tech firmware! Just wanted to thank people for that as its been sitting there for a couple of years unused!

Also, I wasn't sure if the single file upgrade updates the entire firmware for the device, ie lan, wan, modem etc... Heres the info from the RT firmware. Is this correct and up to date? Want to make sure the router is working properly before I set it up again and replace my orange live box thing...

Is there anything else I should be loooking for? thanks!

It looks fine - but perhaps you might want to post the output of "Tools->system diagnostics" (after removing all sensitive/personal information).,

All looks well to me.

You might want to run "adam2-defragenv.sh" just to make sure that the environment is not badly fragmented.

Thats great, thanks for checking it out for me. Hopefully I have a fully working/better router now rather than the dead one I started with!

You might want to run "adam2-defragenv.sh" just to make sure that the environment is not badly fragmented.
I ran this command and now my router is bricked again! Any reason why that would happen?

I went to System - > Run Command

entered the command without the quotes, it sat there for a while, then some text partially came up saying something like are you sure you want to do this, but half the text was missing.

I left it for a while and eventually had to power off the router as I couldnt access the web interface anymore and now my routers not accessible by the web interface. If I run the repair tools I can connect to it at 192.168.56.1 which is where it seems to revert to once its bricked, but when I try to upload firmware again it freezes at erase mt4 I think (not in front of it right now). This is what it was like before I eventually managed to repair it last time, but not having much luck debricking it again,

How did you run it?

That is the cause of the problem. This is exactly how the docs say to NOT run defragmenting commands. They must be run from a telnet/ssh session. Most likely, your environment is trashed, and that is why the router appears to be bricked. You need to correct the environment variables before you can proceed. Fortunately, we have a record of it, from the System diagnostics posted above. I will give you a simple PCTool script to correct that problem.

Save this into a text file, and run it as a script with the pctool

Code: Select all

setenv autoload 1
setenv autoload_timeout 25
setenv bootloaderVersion 0.22.02
setenv bootserport tty0
setenv checksync.sh 1
setenv cpufrequency 150000000
setenv cron_la.sh 2
setenv firstfreeaddress 0x9401d328
setenv flashsize 0x00400000
setenv HWRevision Unknown
setenv maca 00:0d:08:00:03:02
setenv memchk.sh 1
setenv memsize 0x01000000
setenv modetty0 38400,n,8,1,hw
setenv modetty1 38400,n,8,1,hw
setenv modulation 0xff
setenv mtd0 0x90099000,0x903f0000
setenv mtd1 0x90010090,0x90099000
setenv mtd2 0x90000000,0x90010000
setenv mtd3 0x903F0000,0x90400000
setenv mtd4 0x90010000,0x903f0000
setenv my_ipaddress 192.168.1.1
setenv ProductID AR7RD
setenv prompt Adam2_AR7RD
setenv req_fullrate_freq 125000000
setenv SerialNumber none
setenv StaticBuffer 128
setenv sysfrequency 125000000
setenv usb_board_mac 00.0d.88.22.03.02
setenv usb_man D-Link
setenv usb_pid 0x5b00
setenv usb_prod DSL-302T
setenv usb_rndis_mac 00.0d.88.11.03.02
setenv usb_serial 1234567890
setenv usb_vid 0x2001
setenv vcc_encaps0 0.0
setenv vcc_encaps1 0.0
setenv vcc_encaps2 0.0
setenv vcc_encaps3 0.0
setenv vcc_encaps4 0.0
setenv vcc_encaps5 0.0
setenv vcc_encaps6 0.0
setenv vcc_encaps7 0.0
That will restore your environment. Then reboot the router, connect with the pctool again, and flash the RT firmware, and all should be well. Most likely, this would have cured any fragmentation of the environment!

I've also had the same problems as the user in this post. I'm running Windows 7 x64 so I'll go back to my XP partition and run the tools from there...

You should be able to run the environment script with the pctool under Win 7. Flashing a firmware with pctool 2.1 would however be problematic under Win 7. But you could always try the RRT (operating in bootloader mode) or even raw ftp from the command line.
