limited or no connectivity using ethernet
limited or no connectivity using ethernet
Hi everybody.
I'm opening this thread 'cause I'm having problems connecting to my dlink dsl g624t running routertech firmware 2.95
I've been using it on wired connection for a very long time without a single problem, but today I find myself with "limited or no connectivity" on the ethernet card. Wireless works fine, though.
I've tried rebooting the router, but I obtained nothing... suggestions? I know I could just keep the wireless on, but I'd like to know what's going on here.

Re: limited or no connectivity using ethernet
Could be hardware failing - can you connect better if PC connection speed lowered to 10Mbps ?
Re: limited or no connectivity using ethernet
how can I try what you suggest? could you please elaborate a bit further?
anyway, it worked perfectly until yesterday, for many years... do you think the problem is the network card on my laptop or the one on the router?
this is the output of the "ipconfig" command, if it is of any use for you:
as you see, the ethernet has the DHCP enabled, and the router is configured so that to the mac address of the ethernet card it'll always give the same ip address, which should be 192.168.1.7
the wireless card is working on DHCP too, but all is fine. I also notice now that there are some pseudo-interfaces which I do not recognize... I have virtualbox installed, could it be that it created so many virtual network cards?
by the way, now that I look at it, I do not find the DHCP settings on the router! O.o where are they?

Re: limited or no connectivity using ethernet
Set the PC to run the ethernet card at 10mbps (in your Windows settings for the ethernet card).tasso85 wrote:how can I try what you suggest? could you please elaborate a bit further?
The switch on the router. You can try different ports. But it is possible that the switch is dead/dying (this sometimes afflicts the adm6996m switch in particular), or you might have a burnt out capacitor on the router's main board (this is a common enough occurrence, and is probably the cause of the problem).tasso85 wrote:anyway, it worked perfectly until yesterday, for many years... do you think the problem is the network card on my laptop or the one on the router?
Yes.tasso85 wrote:I also notice now that there are some pseudo-interfaces which I do not recognize... I have virtualbox installed, could it be that it created so many virtual network cards?
See the Setup->LAN Configuration screen.tasso85 wrote:by the way, now that I look at it, I do not find the DHCP settings on the router! O.o where are they?

Re: limited or no connectivity using ethernet
So.. I did nothing at all, and all went back to normal! O.o
I've noticed a small thing though: the web interface on the router seems to behave quite badly if accessed using chrome, for example in the DHCP configuration (thanks for pointing out the location) chrome shows ALL the radio buttons as UNCHECKED while firefox correctly shows the checked ones... In fact, using firefox, I checked the configuration of DHCP, saved all settings and rebooted the router, and it worked.

You may wish to report the Chrome issues to the developers of Chrome.

Re: limited or no connectivity using ethernet
I will I just posted it here 'cause I thought it could be related to the web interface itself and not to the browser...
Re: limited or no connectivity using ethernet
That screen works fine with Google Chrome Linux 64 bit 10.0.634.0 dev
Re: limited or no connectivity using ethernet
well, currently I'm using chrome 8.0.552.237 under windows xp sp3.

Re: limited or no connectivity using ethernet
Ditto.
Conclusion: 32-bit Chrome needs some work.
