Firmware v2.92 Poll (darkstat on low memory routers)

Post by thechief » Tue Oct 06, 2009 12:55 pm

We are running out of space with respect to the firmwares for non-wireless routers with 2MB/8MB flash/RAM. This has been a major problem for a long time, and it is getting acute now.

Darkstat is included in all our recent firmwares, and takes a lot of space, which on routers with 2MB flash could be used for other things. Furthermore, those routers are already struggling with low memory situations, and running darkstat on them is not a viable proposition in many cases.

We would therefore like to get an idea of the extent of the usage of darkstat on these routers. If your router has 2MB/8MB flash/RAM, please let us know about your usage of darkstat.

Thanks.

Ok, it seems that it is not in widespread use. I can see that two people are using it - but we have reached a critical point with these low memory routers (in fact, we reached that point a long time ago, but kept struggling along). So, darkstat will be removed from future firmwares for these routers. This will allow us a little bit more room on the flash, so that we can continue to support these routers (else we will need to stop supporting them altogether).

This thread will now be closed.

Thanks to all those who participated in the poll.
