Ooops! Just upset the neighbours.

Me and gardening don't get along. My limit is mowing the lawn. Anything other than grass is a weed in my book.

Well anyway, decided to do something about the bushes that run along the fence line (on my side). These have got a bit (a lot) out of control and had grown to 4 ft deep in places. I was taking each one back to it's core root structure, one result of which is to leave gaps between the bushes and as they are different types it was never intended that they act as a hedge.

She comes out of her kitchen and complains that I am removing her privacy! The nerve! I managed to stay diplomatic and just said that I was tidying them up.

As the fence is her responsibility according to the deeds, she should have thought of her privacy when she replaced the fence last year with one just 3ft high and/or planted her own hedge/bushes. Trying to claim that removing stuff growing on my property is affecting HER privacy really takes the biscuit.

I agree whole-heartedly with you Martyn; neighbors can get really ratty for no good reason sometimes. I always say that the best response is "if you didn't want neighbors you shouldn't have moved in here" (note: this only works if you've lived there longer than they have) (note: may also worsen relations despite being a good retort) :P

Neighbours are a funny bread. We decided to have a conservatory , we told our neighbours both sides, both had no objection, the woman on our right side thought it would really be a good addition to our house. She watched it being built, told us it was coming along nicely. The day it was finished, took about 2 weeks from start to finish, she came round ranting and raving, that it was an eye sore, it blocked all the light out of her kitchen and she wonted it taking down immediately. Needles to say I told her to go forth an multiply. Within 4 months she had moved out :D

How about a neighbour rental scheme. Just bring them in when needed.
