Liebert powersure ups

Talk about anything you like here: as long as it's technical, doesn't fit into the other categories and is within the rules. Questions and discussions about operating systems, programming, websites, hosting, ADSL etc. are particularly welcome here.

Liebert powersure ups

Post by chez » Fri Jun 29, 2007 8:23 pm

I have been given a small UPS (01 vintage from what I take to be the date code label.)

Not sure why I voluteered for it, or what I would use it for, but anyway.

The only useful info I can find on the web is a user manual.

This shows the two RJ45 sockets, but does not describe how to connect it to a network and talk to it.

I really should know better, but curiosity got the better of me.

Where can I get more info on this unit?

It is marked: Liebert Powersure Proactive & "PSA470-230".
Now son, this is the safe way to... ohh?

Suspect the RJ45 are surge protected only and not for 'talking' to the UPS.

Looks to me as if the DB9 serial socket is for "talking" to the unit and the "other" sockets are for dialout alerting etc. :?

EDIT: - according to this manual you are right Biro about the surge suppression/protection

The manual that Shoto posted confirms this :)
The UPS uses the serial port with the SiteNet® MultiLink™ software from:

Thanks guys.

The downloads page has a sixty page manual attached - some reading to be done.
It contains the pin-out spec for the serial cable. As usual, I don't have any spare connectors in my junk box & so I will have to visit my favourite 'toy' shop on the other side of town next weekend.
