Broadband speed checks

Talk about anything you like here: as long as it's technical, doesn't fit into the other categories and is within the rules. Questions and discussions about operating systems, programming, websites, hosting, ADSL etc. are particularly welcome here.

Not that particular one (until just now) as there are lots of online speed tests to choose from ;)

For comparison, the PlusNet test just rated my connection at 630.15 KB/sec

Edit:
And Speedtest.net gives this:

So I see :( Those stats are still rather poor - I know you have been plagued with low speeds for some time.
Quality of service: 44 %
Doesn't look very encouraging :?

That's an understatement! But considering that, in the beginning, I was told I would never get more than a 512k broadband connection, I am not complaining!

I find the speedtest sites in the US give me 'wobbly' results at best, My test looks much worse than it really is, using the speedtester over at ThinkBroadband I get better results, though I also find that the Java based speedtests give me widely varying tests when I am in linux (currently in XP on my work connection for these tests),

gives similar results, but you try that test on a slow PC and it affects the output too.

Yes, some of the speed tests look dodgy.

This speedtester gives me fairly repeatable results on the connection at work (PlusNet, 2meg), can't test at home yet still not reconnected :(

Looks like www.speedtest.bbmax.co.uk is based on the Ookla engine, which is also responsible for http://www.speedtest.net , http://www.mybroadbandspeed.co.uk and many others.

Here's another speed test: http://www.speedtester.bt.com :)

There are a lot of nice graphs and stats on the speedtester you posted chief, which is really rather nice. I'm currently in uni so my connection came back at an absolutely blistering speed :P

I tried this speed test site twice, one of my friends actually introduces me to use it. And I'm so glad it helps me in some of my research.
