Are all Homeplugs compatible across brands?

Talk about anything you like here: as long as it's technical, doesn't fit into the other categories and is within the rules. Questions and discussions about operating systems, programming, websites, hosting, ADSL etc. are particularly welcome here.

What model numbers and what speeds?

Homeplug 200 AV is not backwards compatible with 85Mbps or 14Mbps. See pages.php?page=55 ;)

...also ther have been some probelms reported about 14Mbps units from one manufacturer not necessarily working with 85Mbps units from another - although I haven't seen anything about problems with 85Mbps units across vendors..... :)

speed determines compatibility?

they are both 14mps, but lets assume they are 85 and 14. would they work together regardless of the brand?

Not necessarily (based on reports) - although in theory they should :?

If they both use the Homeplug standard (any product description or review should tell you if they use the Homeplug standard) and have been certified by the Homeplug Organisation ( http://www.homeplug.org ) then they should work together.

Indeed they should as they should all be designed (and tested) to meet the same "standard" - however for example Solwise Homeplug units and Vesenet units have been reported as having problems ----

Yes, unfortunately, it seems some manufacturers aren't making cross-brand compatibility a priority :(
Therefore to ensure that each adaptor is going to play nicely it's probably best to stick to the same brand (much in the same way that you normally get the best results by using the same brand with wifi).
