AVG pop-up advert
Wondered if anyone else had noticed that AVG has now got an ad that it opens in IE. Only just started doing it since recent update...
Think it is time to switch all my machines to another AV if they are starting playing these games.

I saw something like this after the last update, but I think it only appeared when I tried to close the update-has-completed-countdown-window.

I'll keep an eye out for it then - not so bad if it's only present if there's manual intervention I suppose - still don't like it though
...then again I don't like being forced to buy the Pro version of the Anti-Spyware tool to get scheduled updates either

It has happened a couple of times now on my box I use as a server, seems to be every time it does an automatic update which is a bit annoying as the box is headless I find IE open with the ad when I vnc in.
Wife says she has had it a couple of times, haven't updated my PC for a few days so not affected my desktop yet.

Heh, heh. I use Avast, and it does no such thing.

...to a certain extent I don't have a problem with this approach with a free version of a utility - providing it doesn't become a daily occurence - don't see the problem with the supplier of a free version periodically advertising discount upgrade offers.....
EDIT: ...it's the "price" I'm prepared to pay.....

Hmmm ... let's just say that I am very good at knowing what will never happen.Shotokan101 wrote:Sorry Chief - didn't realise that you were the author and had written that clause into the T's&C's for personal usethechief wrote:It will never do any such thing.
You can't blame a programmer for trying to make some money ...Shotokan101 wrote:...I used to think that AVG would stay "fully free" as well.....

Running Comodo on my kids machine, a little annoying the little popup that appears in the corner of the screen asking if you want such and such to run (like ZA) but apart from that seems okay.Techsolver wrote:I tried Avast a couple of years ago and boy did it bog down the system. Will try the new version against Comodo and see which I prefer.
