Will wifi card from dlink dsl-g604t work in laptop?

Talk about anything you like here: as long as it's technical, doesn't fit into the other categories and is within the rules. Questions and discussions about operating systems, programming, websites, hosting, ADSL etc. are particularly welcome here.

Will wifi card from dlink dsl-g604t work in laptop?

Post by patryk84 » Thu Jun 05, 2008 8:50 am

I have bricked* d-link g604t router (i found it very hot and it has problems with firmware/connections (wifi ok, packets trough the cable went only to router) so i tried to check router by serial cable - only thing i saw was small smoke from one of parts)
Anyway, i'm the guy that 'recycles' everything so i have question:

Will wifi card (ti acx111 ?) work as mini-pci in my laptop?

(acer travelmate, can be other)? and if so, where i can find some drivers to this card?

*-has broken itself, was not messing with hardware/helping it got damaged, only firmware, routertech 2.3 (Darkwolf's version worked best)

//edit:
need windows drivers

//edit2:
thanks, problem solved, "should work" sound a bit confusing to me ;]

It probably will, if you can find the appropriate drivers for it. If it truly is an acx111 card then using the acx driver on Linux platforms should work. However, you may or may not be able to get drivers for it on Windows platforms.

I have one of these cards and so far only got it to work under linux, even then was a bit of work. Seems that the acx drivers are supported but since Ubuntu have decided to use Network Manager you have to manually setup the card as something between them is broken. I have not yet managed to get it to work under Windows (not used the drivers from the link mind) and that was in 2 different laptops. Good luck with your efforts and let us know how you get on.

okay, so I hurt my router 'a bit' and pulled its wifi card
it's Alpha WMP-G04 and it's mac starts with: 00-11-95 [google says 001195 D-Link Corporation (was: Alpha Networks Inc.)]

Edited: chipset is TNET w1130gvf

Think that router (especialy wifi card) was repaired or sth - soldering of this small cover on card looks negligent and awfull!

I will let You know but first I have to wait until monday and go service to open laptop and install card (it has warranty (and seals) for power supply repair)
