Router Identification

Post by johnlil » Sat Sep 06, 2008 11:12 am

I need to work out whether my router can utilise the RouterTech firmware. Identifying my router is a challenge as its a branded cheapo. All I get on the info tab in the web portal is:

Product Information
Model Number ADSL2/2+ Router
HW Revision 94211G
Serial Number 20070531

Googling around the only reference I can get is to an iDream product. But whilst the web portal seems to match the product is clearly physical different.

How can I confirm the identity of the router, and then work out whether the RouterTech firmware will work.

Found the RUC but I'm a Mac/Linux house, no MS here!
I really do not want to brick my router.

Login to the router via telnet or ssh, and supply the outputs of these commands:

Code: Select all

cat / etc/versions # remove space (inserted because the forum rejects it otherwise)
cat /proc/ticfg/env
cat /proc/modules
cat /proc/interrupts
cat /proc/avalanche/avsar_ver

Looks like a standard non-wireless router with the PSP boot loader. How many ethernet ports does it have?

The standard 4-port ar7rd firmware for the psp bootloader should work -with one caveat - assuming that your router's ethernet switch is supported. There is no way to verify that, unless you know the kind of switch in the router.

Further help needed?

Post by johnlil » Thu Jan 01, 2009 7:53 pm

Finally got round to trying this.

I've now sourced a Windows box and have downloaded and attempted to use RUC, with the following results.

RUC exits after getting to approximately 16% with and error message saying the HTTP Daemon is not running, it gives me an option to restart. Clicking on this returns me to the main RUC screen and then a quick flash as the progress bar goes to 100%, then blanks and all I get is an option to view report and a 'abort' report is posted in the RUC directory.

Reading through the posts on the forum, it reccomends ensuring that my .ini file entry matches the name of my http daemon to fix this and to find the correct name I should telnet in an use the ps command to output the correct name.

When I try to run the ps command it comes back with 'no such filename or command'. Again reading the forums indicates at this point your pretty much out of luck in getting RUC to help.

As the router is a spare and cheap I went for it and tried to upgrade. I've now used all of the image files in the psp bootloader 4 port AR7D based 2.8 release and get the same behaviour.

Image file loads, runs to 100% and browser goes blank, wait for 7 minutes and refresh, this takes me to a page from my original software saying restart router, restarting the router returns me to the OEM's firmware. Ignoring the the restart page and login into the portal again results in and internal error, exiting message.

I must be doing domething wrong, any guidance greatly appreciated.

Have you tried clearing your browser cache? If you do that, and you still get your OEM firmware, then the upgrade procedure has failed (probably because the original firmware is preventing it). In that case, then you will need to upgrade using the Router Repair Tool, or the PCTool.

Not quite there

Post by johnlil » Thu Jan 01, 2009 8:46 pm

Using the RRT vers. 1.0.5 and the wizard everything goes fine until step 4 of 4, after selecting the img file, it runs through the telnet, reboot etc. then coms up with:

"Run time error 52; Bas file name or number.

Corrupted download of the img file? Did use a USB ket to transfer the zip and I hate those things.

Getting worse

Post by johnlil » Thu Jan 01, 2009 9:01 pm

BTW - forgot to say, clearing the cache left be with the original software, so it hadn't taken.

I've re downloaded the img files

Now going through either the wizard or the Details>>Repair tabs generates the same error upon initiate connection:

Winsock Control Error - 10053 : Software caused connection abort.
