Can my router use RouterTech firmware?

Talk about anything you like here: as long as it's technical, doesn't fit into the other categories and is within the rules. Questions and discussions about operating systems, programming, websites, hosting, ADSL etc. are particularly welcome here.

Login to the router via telnet or ssh, and supply the outputs of these commands:

Code: Select all

cat /etc/versions
cat /proc/ticfg/env
cat /proc/modules
cat /proc/interrupts
cat /proc/avalanche/avsar_ver
cat /proc/avalanche/avsar_dsl_modulation_schemes
/sbin/ifconfig

Re: Can my router use RouterTech firmware?

Post by thechief » Wed Apr 21, 2010 11:01 am

This looks like a most interesting device. It may be possible (with some effort) to install RT firmwares on it, as it looks like it sports at least the lowest common denominators of the AR7WRD platform. However, it is not a step that should be taken lightly. It is clear that your manufacturer's firmware has a lot of features (as shown in "cat /proc/modules") that simply do not exist on RT (or other AR7) firmwares - so you will be losing a fair amount of current functionality. So, the question is - why do you want to install RT on it?

Furthermore, the sheer number of mtd partitions is bewildering - and the sizes of some of the more common ones are most unusual (e,g, the bootloader (mtd2) partition is 128kb instead of 64kb, and the config/environment (mtd3) partition is 256kb instead of 64kb). The mtd1 partition is set up for separate image upgrades too. Who knows what is in the other partitions?

PS: I have removed some sensitive data "[censored]" which you don't really want floating around on a public forum.

There's a bootlog and an attempt to run OpenWRT on a very similar router here:-

http://www.openwrt.com.cn/bbs/viewthrea ... le&tid=228

and an incomplete attempt to install RT firmware on a similar router here

Thanks to all.
I will use this router, until it can use RT or OpenWRT successful.
